Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Discussion for the first book in the Sandman Slim series
Sandman Slim (Sandman Slim, #1) by Richard Kadrey

Life sucks and then you die. Or, if you’re James Stark, you spend eleven years in Hell as a hitman before finally escaping, only to land back in the hell-on-earth that is Los Angeles.

Now Stark’s back, and ready for revenge. And absolution, and maybe even love. But when his first stop saddles him with an abusive talking head, Stark discovers that the road to absolution and revenge is much longer than you’d expect, and both Heaven and Hell have their own ideas for his future.

Resurrection sucks. Saving the world is worse.

Have you read this one? Will you do a reread? Let us know what you think

Alisa I really enjoy this series. If you like audiobooks these have a great narrator and I really recommend listening to them.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments That is good to know I may try it on audio. This is one of those books everyone used to talk about and so many people loved it.

I hope I can get to it this month.

Alisa The first book was just average for me but by book two I was hooked. It's a bit dark and Stark is super cynical and jaded but he makes me lol sometimes with the stuff he says. I have to be in just the right mood for these books but overall I really like the series. I've read all but the last one (or two). I've done all of them except book one on audio. It's the same narrator throughout the series and he's super good. You can tell the author has spent some time in Los Angeles cuz he does a great job setting the vibe for So. Calif. Some of the jokes are probably only funny to we So Cal peeps but.......

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Awesome! Funny how sometimes you have to be in the mood for certain books.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Well I did not get to this one this month. I still have not located my paperback and I am like number 8 on the library list for audio. Who knew this book was still in demand?

Tina Bartz | 678 comments I finally finished this yesterday...started it on the 18th, lol! It wasn't the book's fault, though. I didn't even touch my tablet for several days. I was packing and getting ready to go out of town camping and watching dog trials for a week and once we were in Louisiana I only read Friday night/Saturday morning during a thunderstorm and tornado warning. We sat in the truck from about 12:00 to 4:00 am waiting to see if our tent would collapse and/or blow away. So I read then, and on the way home yesterday.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Wow Tina I am glad you are ok!

Shreveport seems to have those really gusty storms much more so than on the east coast.

We were in Winnfield, La. but there was a long, wide line of thunderstorms and tornado conditions moving from Texas through Louisiana and on into Mississippi, at about 35 miles per hour, until it stalled over us, lol.
