SOLVED. Maybe Fantasy Medieval, "_____ of the Falcon/Hawk/Eagle" read in 2006 [s]

I read this book in 06 and it appeared to be old then. I think some kind of bird of prey was in the title. It was a little over my head so I don't remember much in way of plot but the main character was a younger male on some quest, he had a childhood friend I think travelling with him. At one point they get captured or fall in with a group of other younger guys led by a man, at one point a bunch of them die in a blizzard because none of them know to share body heat.

Not much but I've always been curious to give it another read.

The Wings of a Falcon? Haven't read it in eons, but I think the plot is at least vaguely similar.
