Janet Christian | 6 comments I have another story I've searched to find for a decade now. I read it some time in the 70s. It is YA and either a short story or novel. The earth is dying. A lot of the story takes place in Denver. The air is so polluted that people die in inversion days. Thousands protest the few planes that still land at the airport because of the amount of pollution they cause. One man is slowly seeking the brightest and the best youth of the world and spiriting them away to a place called Magic, where they will all figure out how to save the world.

Janet Christian | 6 comments Might be. There's no mention in the summary about the place called Magic, but that's kind of the twist, so a summary wouldn't mention it. I like Whitley Strieber, so it's quite likely that I read this. Probably right after I'd read Cat Magic. Thank you!

Follow up: I found a more thorough summary and unless I'm mixing two books in my memory, Nature's End is not the one I'm asking about. It doesn't seem to involve Denver, or young geniuses, or a hopeful end at a secret enclave where the future will be saved.

Janet Christian | 6 comments This is the book, then! Thank you so much. I used to have a copy but it must be long gone. I'll be ordering another. You don't know how long I've tried to remember the title of this book. Thanks!
