Main character has superpower that he/she is afraid of

I've been reading Peter Pan retellings, so one of those would be ok. I like books where the character can fly/breathe underwater/etc. but is afraid of the thing they can control (ex. if they can fly, they are afraid of heights). An example of this is Maia in Fate of Flames; her parents died in a fire and she controls fire.

Any recommendations are appreciated! I prefer middle grade and YA.

Darkness of Light by Stacey Marie Brown. Ember knows she's different, but doesn't know what she is. She is very powerful and has trouble controlling it and is afraid of hurting people and of being judged/sent away.

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson is an interesting take on Heroes.
The main character is not the one with powers, and I can't say too much without giving some major spoilers away, but let's just say that in this world, there are some major drawbacks to having super powers.

In Riordan's The Sword of Summer and Magnus Chase series, we meet a shapeshifter who fears loss of control when she uses her powers.

I can't think of any specific examples involving books, but a common trend with characters that have pyrokinesis is that they can't always control themselves. They often come with dark pasts about how they accidentally burned houses down or killed people with their powers, and as a result they fear their own power.
