Rosemary encounters two parties on the beach at the beginning of the book. What is the distinction she makes between the two—and what do two circles represent? What is your opinion of the two groups?

I don't think I was too engaged at the beginning of the book. I would have to re-read the first part to answer this question.

John Seymour I remember the two groups, but I don't recall her characterization.

Pip | 1822 comments She thought of the two groups as the light (the Divers) and the dark. The dark group, under conventional sun umbrellas, were predictable, envious of the other group, gossipy and gauche. They recognised Rosemary and treated her as a celebrity. The other group seemed much more interesting and effortlessly glamourous, using a collection of parasols under which to sit. I was attracted to the description of the Divers, too, and would have wanted to meet that group just as Rosemary did.
