Natasha | 2 comments I read this book back in 2001. It was definitely in Young Adult genre. I can remember the book being about a boy who is almost a prodigy with the piano. He can't read music but he has a slight synesthesia - picturing the music when he listens to it. He imagines green forests when he listens to one particular piece. He plays at a concert or a music contest where he is given sheet music and because he can't read music, he plays something different to what is on the sheet music. He is disqualified. His teacher or some other mentor tells him that Mozart was also not able to read music. There are other bits and pieces to the story - something about the family that was not entirely ok. I remember that the cover of the paperback version that I read was purple/dark blue and I might be completely wrong, but the word 'star' may have been in the title. It was a really descriptive book with many beautiful passages about music. There was an older teacher/mentor/grandparent-like figure in the book that also made an impression on me.
