Anshu knows that he's not the most... respected... authority figure. He knows that the other council members probably have no respect whatsoever for him. He just doesn't care. He's not trying to make some big important statement about his generation, or about the need to respect people of colour, he's trying to do his job and keep as many decent people alive as possible. And if that means that everyone hates him, so be it.

But no matter how little respect people have for him, that doesn't change the fact that Anshu is smart, skilled, and has the power to make use of his talent. And he's not the sort to let power go to his head, but... well, there's something nice about being able to shut up anyone who starts criticising him. There's something satisfying about stopping terrorists, saving lives, and knowing that it's because of him.

Anshu Mehta brought down a trafficking organisation before his twelfth birthday, stopped a major drug cartel at age fifteen, and became one of the youngest World Security Council members at age twenty. He joined S.H.I.E.L.D after he was approached by them at age sixteen, and rapidly ascended the ranks, becoming one of the council members four years later.

But before that, his life wasn't so easy. Anshu was born to a single mother in Kolkata, which really says everything. He was almost kidnapped several times, but his intuition and a+ running skills allowed him to escape, staying one step ahead of the child traffickers that infested the slums. Being bright and somewhat full of himself, he decided that he was more than capable of putting an end to that, and through a few carefully-placed stolen cameras and microphones, he had enough evidence to send an entire setup to prison.
