Who Else Didn't Really Like the Ending?

I was definitely upset with the ending and with Cal's decision, but I can't say that I was completely blindsided. Cal was raised to be a king, and knowing that he would have to marry someone he didn't love. His mindset would always be to choose power over love. I hope that they can get past this in War Storm, though. They're my favorite, and I think that there's more to this than just Mare vs. Crown.

I was neutral about Cal the first 2 books really, but with book 3 I really became Team Cal. And I want them to be together. But I also saw that Victoria Aveyard is a slytherin so I don’t know what to think about book 4 except May is so far away.
I fricken cried at the end. Seriously, but I will always be TeamCal! Cal picked the crown over Mare, yes, but he did it for Mare! He wants to set the Kingdom of Norta the way Mare wants it: Reds, Silvers, and Newbloods all equal. ;) CALARE!

you guys Cal did not pick the crown over Mare! the crown is his mothafucking birthright! like what else was he supposed to do? live his life in a hut with Mare and pretend to be a happy peasant? Someone has to overthrow Maven and be king, Mare and all of us knew this so if anything Mare is the one who turned her back on HIM.
Honestly what was she expecting? Isnt it better that we have a new king who now knows and respects the reds? Like wtf was the kingdom gonna do after the revolution overthrew and killed Maven?
Did anyone think that far? I think captain whats his name wanted to be king and it would have redo of the hunger games ending.

I think Mare and Cal should have discussed it more, but you know, it's a book, it is entertainment. They have been in worse situations before, so they will obviously have a decent ending with each other. TEAMCAL!
I think that in the 4th book, Cal will show Mare what he meant to do FOR HER as king, but since she is so friken stubborn, she will wave him off. I also think in the end, Cal will save her for the billionth time from Maven, and they will work together to kill him. Then Cal will genuinley apologize, and Mare will break out crying, realizing how great Cal is and how bad she treated him. Then they will share a romantic kiss. Eventually, Cal and Mare will be side by side, ruling the now peaceful kingdom of Norta, with Reds, Silvers, and Newbloods treated equally. The only sad thing is though, I just know someone else close to Mare is going to have to die. I think it might be Kilorn, Farley, or one of her family members. ;( Victoria better make it a decent ending or I will die! Lol, Team Cal!

Yea, he picked the crown FOR Mare, I think. And even though the decision was heartbreaking, I honestly he made the right one. I mean your career and your life is a little bit more important than a relationship, no matter how not-romantic it sounds.
yeah I just think that victoria fucked up here. if the point was to get Cal to betray Mare she should have done something worse like make him form an alliance behind Mares back or something worth getting angry over.

I hate to say that I didn't like the ending. It frustrated me that the story as going to continue after having to deal with how dull Glass Sword was to me. The 4th book I don't think I will buy right away. It's sad when reading a book series feels like a chore.

Goodness, I loved this series! I wouldn't mind one bit if it went on forever! It just has so many lovable characters and an interesting plot.

Well, I feel like everyone obviously got to know Mare. We got to know Cal pretty well. Kilorn, I think we know enough about him, just not really a lot. Maven...goodness, he is still a mystery. And then we got to know Cameron and Evangeline better through their chapters. Maybe fantasy and royalty just aren't your best genres?
I didn't like the ending. I wonder if there's a chance Mare will end up like Farley, pregnant with Cal' s child. Most likely not, but I would want to see her reaction, and them if Cal would find out.
that would be interesting for Mare to have Cal's child but I feel like it would be too much her to squeeze in the last book.. I have no idea where she's going with this series anymore and why Marven even loves Mare as much as he does. it's so frustrating
I was playing a game where it picks a random color for you to play as, and I was fighting to be red because my username is Red Queen. I showed up next to someone silver and whisper yelled "filthy Silver!"
I'm not a Marecal Person, but choosing Maven would be yet another idiot move on her part. Cal loves her, and she hates Maven more than she hates anyone, so I hope no one actually thinks that could happen.

Im new to this debate and just read all the comments and agree with most of u guys so here are my thoughts......I think that maven and mare would never happen so if you think that you must be insane to think mare would ever be that STUPID to go back to maven so thats just a big fat NO ....
I think there is a chance for marecal shippers (including me) because cal really does want mare and he is doing this so that what they have been fighting for will be finally done but i dont think mare would ever be the RED QUEEN because deep in her heart she would never really want that after seeing what the crown did to maven and i dont really want that towantpen either because that would mean she is giving up who she is and breaking that thread of steel for something that she doesnt even want ....
YES i really was heart broken by the ending (and this book series is my fave of alllll time ) but i feel like this is not a reason to hate on either cal, mare or maven beacause each of them are wrong in some way (some more than others *cough cough maven) but they all have their reasons and we have to respect that just think... Would u really like the book anymore if the ending didnt happen ?¿? I know i would nt care much about war storm

Sorry guys but I honestly think Maven stands NO chance with Mare. Like I've said a thousand times before, there's proof for that in Kings Cage. If Mare would have wanted to be with Maven, she had a lot of opportunities. (Bath tub scene for example)

I loved the book but hated the ending! I can't believe Mare just left him like that! Of course he has to choose the kingdom over her, it's his duty.When I saw that there was another book I just about DIED with happiness!

Scrolling through this discussion, it seems like I'm in a very small minority, but... I actually liked the ending of King's Cage. I thought it provided a good opportunity for some possible exploration in many different directions for the remainder of the series and will make the story more interesting. I've also never been a fan of Cal, though, so that might be part of the reason I'm excited about what happened. I won't miss his absence from the Red's headquarters.
I loved Cal and in a way I still do so a psychopathic side of me understands his choice but I know he should have chosen Mare and it was selfish not to. Sadly I was in one of my parents posh friends houses when I finished the book and burst into tears...

Along with the ending, I should mention that the movie making by our favourite Effie Trinket aka Elizabeth Banks—is near ! So...The BEST RED QUEEN MOVIE CAST EVER ! Can you check em out ? And recommend this to others ? The more you recommend, the more people and the officials notice ! :

I thought King's Cage was the last book, but then I saw the ending. The Cliffhanger is killing me :'(
I ACTUALLY THREW MY COPY ACROSS THE ROOM!Like, I get Mare is stubborn and independent with some major trust issues, but we see that she knows Cal's fault is his loyalty and sense of self duty. They rebuilt the bridge between them and he sacrificed what he wanted for HER.

King's Cage was absoluty incredible (Maven won as the best 2017 villain in King's Cage) EXCEPT the ending.That epilogue blowed me up, I wasn't expacting it.
Victoria said that these are the rules of love and Mare should have known it... I know there is not hope for team Mareven, but how can you not like him? A tortured child by his own mother, with no soul, only a powerful and dangerous mind, capable to tell any lie

I am so with you book sister! Why in the name of all that’s good must being strong be synonymous with being single and alone after spending 3 books to convince us he’s the one?
Its his kingdom and your destroying it - should he also wipe the boots of each rebel to show he loves you? fuck mare and fuck this cheap ass ending that was NOT an ending.

After reading what felt like tons of books in this same series i got tired of it an dwanted it to end. Recently found out that there is another book thicker than this one.....
I felt like the ending was rushed. I’m also not a huge fan of the Mare/Cal relationship dynamics to begin with, so it didn’t surprise me when they made another choice that I wasn’t a fan of. Evangeline’s perspective seems to have become the most honest and realistic.
