Amazon is not considered a very reliable source for page counts, except for Kindle editions. Worldcat, which matches Goodread's page count policy much more closely, puts this book at 494 pages.
If you have a copy of this book, could I please trouble to confirm your edition's ISBN and check what's after pg 494?

Thank you Alex. Yes, I have a copy of this book. The isbn is:
9781848716933

There are 6 pages of 'ads' for other books from this publisher. However, in the beginning of the book, there is an extended introductory essay and account of the author's life that are numbered with roman numerals up through page xx. So, that is 494 numbered pages, 6 pages afterward, and 20 before. So Amazon's count is actually correct in this instance.
