I see by the discussions that many of you have read this. I started it and hard difficulty following the flash backs and the forwards and the...well, I like a lot of Clancy books, but this one was just too much an investment for me.

Read on. It gets better. It also explains how Mr. Clark, who appears regularly in Clancy's Jack Ryan books, became Mr. Clark.
I agree. It's probably my favorite. I need to re read this (I haven't read it since it was published.)
This is by far and away my favorite Clancy novel. Clark is also my favorite character and this book explains him as a character. Great read.
This was THE book that made me a reader. seriously. great book. not too "techy" It's by far the opposite end of the quality spectrum from Clancy's last works...the good end.

Totally agree here, couldn't get into it at all then just persevered. Totally great book and the main reason I try to follow Mr Clarks antics.Great read, well written and Damon wish I'd wrote it.
I agree with everyone above; it's a great read! I wish they would make it into a movie. Both this one and "The Cardinal of the Kremlin."
I agree with pretty much everyone here, this was a great read, and I listened to it as an audio book, so it was VERY confusing with all the back and forth on the timeline. But it was an amazing book!
I agree with many of the others: that this is a great Clancy read. I too wish they would make it into a movie. It's worth the investment to finish reading it.
It has been years since I read it, but many scenes in this book stuck with me. It is a dive into the depths of the Mr. Clark. I was also a great bridge between Clear and Present Danger and Debt of Honor.
Cheers for John Clark!! Love this book and so wish that it would be made into a movie. He's my favorite Clancy character as well.
Awesome book, explains a lot about how John Clark became John Clark. I think next to Jack Ryan, he is my favourite Clancy character
Hands down my favorite Clancy novel and quite possibly my favorite novel overall. I loved seeing the formation of Mr Clark, as he becomes such a major character in subsequent books. And to Kathryn, muddle through the parts that you find confusing because everything eventually falls into place. Completely satisfying ending.
Julie wrote: "was also a great bridge between Clear and Present Danger and Debt of Honor"Yeah, there are some lovely little nuanced details in this book, that are touched or built upon in those books (the significance of Chavez's love interest's name - slightly convoluted way to refer to her, but I don't want to spoil anything) and also 'Executive Orders', I think (WRT John's real name).
I loved 'Without Remorse' & I've recently re-read it after a 20 year gap. It really made a deep impression the first time around and I'm a different person for the 2nd read, so some other things were apparent on my 2nd look.
I tell you what I would like to see. Starting with Without Remorse and going through to the last book, which would include not only the Jack Ryan series but both John Clark books and Jack Ryan Jr books too, a tv series running right through all the books I reckon there is enough detail in each book to make a short season out of each, maybe 15 or 20 ep's each, depending on the book size. Just a mad thought. lol
It's been a while since I read Without Remorse but it was a good read. May have to read it again. One thing I do remember clearly--don't mess with Mr. Clark.

RED CARPET RANSOM, February 2015
I enjoyed this book. I discovered it when going to break at work, as every time I needed a new book for my lunch break, I'd go past the bookshelves in the store. I saw it, and knew I liked Tom Clancy, so it was an easy grab. Soon as I saw it was Clark's backstory I was enthralled. I enjoyed the duality the character had to present the whole of the story as well. I'll admit I was excited, and then disappointed with the film adaptation. Now, the film was good on its own, but wasn't this story, and that was my disappointment.
