How would define a "nightmare"?

I had a weird dream this night about an underwater school and a mermaid with a human father that didn't want anyone else to have it. it was bizarre and had me on edge, like is was watching a movie, and when i woke up, try as i might, i couldn't shake it. what would you say defines a nightmare? do they have to be terrifying or just strange enough to get you thinking?

maybe i just like talking? I'm thinking of choosing a different topic each week but i had another weird dream. this one was even more bizarre than the first, a mix of voltron legendary defender and the swiss family robinson. throw in a little x-men and suddenly i'm a princess... i enjoyed it tho. it was a nice break from the odd mermaid school the night before :D

on the topic of dreams, i have one to share with you. it goes like this:

i'm standing by a tree where a crow sits on a branch. it does not have the face of a crow but i identify it as such. i call it down with food and i lands on my arm. people come and try to take it from me but i protect it, claiming it will do the same if the people harm me. the people then attack me but the crow does nothing to help me...

thoughts?
