This book vaguely follows romeo and juliet. The characters are senior or juniors in high school, and they are suspects in a murder as they are on the run they fall further and further in love with each other, steal a car and dodge the police, but at the very end i believe one dies and the other commits suicide kinda like romeo and juliet plus there is a rape scene unfortunately but a great book nonetheless. I know for a fact it is written by a man and most of his other books are based on teens with drug problems based in california. Also his books are mostly about teens but are very very adult. Please help and i hope its easy to figure out as i am losing my mind trying to remember.

Maybe Street Love by Walter Dean Myers? If there was a chance the author wasn't a man I would suggest Romiette and Julio by Sharon Draper.
I'm pretty sure Draper's is a happy ending, though. However, it's the first one that came to my mind too.
It is neither of these authors. it's been wrote within this decade and they are very teenage angst. some of the books have wrote in playlists and tell you what the characters were listening to at certain points throughout the books. most songs were indie rock or puck rock I know the yeah yeah yeahs were one of the bands mentioned in some books along with the pixies. I know a lot of books do that nowadays but I hope that helps a little.
