Dear readers and writers,
With only two hours left in this discussion, I can't say it's been an overwhelming success in stimulating discourse. But it has been a wonderfully productive time for me in reflecting on my role as a writer and how this pursuit has informed my reading.
As Anne Lamott writes in "Bird by Bird," "[b]ecoming a writer can... profoundly change your life as a reader. One reads with a deeper appreciation and concentration, knowing now how hard writing is, especially how hard it is to make it look effortless."
I share Ms. Lamott's goal in writing: "Maybe what you've written will help others.... [I]f you are writing the clearest, truest words you can find and doing the best you can to understand and communicate, this will shine on paper like its own little lighthouse." I hope each book I write is a little lighthouse. How many will those beacons help find their way and how far will those lights shine?
Happy reading, all. ~Kate

I'm the author of The Last Best Thing and I'll be available today (until 8 pm CST) to discuss the book and writing. I hope you're as excited about this day of "book talk" as I am and that you'll feel free to weigh in with your questions and comments. I look forward to hearing from you!
