Bren fall in love with the sea. | 325 comments This was a thriller.Science Fiction and I don't read all that much of that genre or at least I didn't back then so it could be a very well known book. I have no idea. I don't remember alot about it but it was about a man who finds out that everyone he knows, including his wife, are robots. Sort of ahead if its time. I remember a scene where his wife starts repeating herself asking about cooking him dinner. This book is not The Stepford Wives but it is along those lines.

What may help is I remember the wife's name is either Janet or Janice. And there is a doctor involved. I was to young to remember much more honestly but any help would be appreciated.

Bren, do you learn early in the book that everyone he knows are robots?

Can you tell us more about the man - his job, hobbies, family/friends, etc.?

Location - Earth/another planet, country/city/town? Time period?

Bren fall in love with the sea. | 325 comments No. He finds out at the very end. I read it when I was quite young so I do not remember much else. I know he finds out because the Doctor/scientist tells him and there is that creepy scene with his wife where she starts repeating herself over and over.I read it at least thirty years ago so it would have come out most likely sometime in the 1970's or early 80's.

I removed the reference to robots in the topic header and added a spoiler alert.

Bren fall in love with the sea. | 325 comments Thank You. I like your description better then mine.

Bren fall in love with the sea. | 325 comments Bumping this up..still looking:

additional info: The last words in the book are the doctor telling the guy to "come here".

Wife is definetly Janet or Janice and there is a scene where she starts repeating herself over and over.

If they are not robots, they are something close to it..the onlt person who is still himself is Janet's husband.
