We finished listening to the audible version of The Whistler. I think I'll stick to Grisham books in physical form in the future. The narrator was a distraction instead of an asset. As always, I enjoyed the suspense and conspiracy of Grisham's story but the payoff wasn't as enjoyable as in previous books.
We continued our foray into Audible which has proven particularly great for road trips. On our most recent excursion to Sacramento to pick up our French Bulldog (happy Christmas to us) we started Scrappy Little Nobody. The experience is enhanced by Anna Kendrick being both author and narrator. Her prose is consistently entertaining and her stories come across as authentic. How little I knew about the transition from regular person to starlet. Be prepared to keep your ears engaged as Kendrick is a fast talker. It took awhile for us to get used to her pacing and cadence, but ultimately it does not detract from the enjoyment of the audio version.
I read The Butterfly Garden and once I started I couldn't put it down. I gave up sleep and a multitude of other events in order to read the entire book which I accomplished in a day and a half. I had technical problems with my Kindle version of the book, every 3rd or 4th page would be blank. This did not stop me from constantly sizing and resizing font options so I wouldn't miss a word - a real pain, but an accurate description of the level of my obsession with this suspense-filled book.
Our next book club choice is The Fireman by Joe Hill. Although it is an easy ready, I found it difficult to keep momentum going particularly at the beginning of the story. I really dislike the female lead in the book.
