Help find that book

I need some help finding a teen romance book that I read a while ago. This book switches the point of view back and forth between the boy and the girl. So the premise of the story is that there is this boy who moved to the U.S. from Mexico where he had a harsh life and the only way that he could survive is by joining a drug cartel may of been a gang or something related. He is staying a a family members place but he has cousins near there as well. His family lives in a tough part of town and some gaming members see his tattoos and scars and try to recruit him repetitively. Throughout the story they are antagonists and once or twice I think they get into fights, the boy wins of corse though. While he is at high school he meets this girl as she is the one who shows him around on his first day and something happens and they are attracted to each other yet they both deny it and pretend to hate each other. Until the boys cousin convinces him to go to the club one night and the girls best friend convinces her as she hasn't gone in years since her wild years. They see each other at the club and actually start dancing together and outside they have this big dramatic kiss then they go home. I can't quite remember what happens after that but at one point he has to win her back so he and his cousin come up with an idea to make her jealous while at the beach and it works and they go and talk on a jet ski where he tells her what all of his scars are from. Not to spoil but I can't remember past that but the ending is that he pretended to be dead so the gang members would lay off of him and she is devastated. Then it flashes forward to after high school when she is in another country building houses or schools or something and he is there waiting for her. So if anyone knows the title or author I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know!
