SOLVED. 80's or early 90's YA novel about kid who wants to be a stand-up comedian. [s]

I read this book in the early 90's. It was about a boy who was in middle school or high school and wanted to be a stand-up comedian. He made a lot of wisecracks to this girl his age and would practice his routines. I think his name might have been Alec, Alex or Eric. It's not the books "I Funny," "Maxx Comedy" or "My Life as a Fifth Grade Comedian" because I think those were published too recently.
