In about 2010 I read a picture book to my children about a very poor farmer and his wife. I have always retained the sense that it felt eastern european (but as in English, of course). Very poor, but they had a great cherry tree. The wife would always shoo the birds away from stealing the little that they had. But one day, many years later, they walked far away and found a forest of cherry trees that the birds had "planted." Any ideas?
