I'm looking forward to hearing what others think. I thought it was one of the more inventive fantasies I read last year.
I started reading Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson a couple of days ago. I'm about halfway through and I am enjoying it so far.I like the fusion of fantasy and computer-science science fiction. I'm also enjoying the view of gulf state Islamic culture.
I haven't read much eastern and middle eastern fiction. However I have just recently finished The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye and not too long ago I read People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.
Although there are obvious parallels to be drawn between Alif the Unseen, The Far Pavilions and People of the Book, they are however; all very different stories set in very differnt genres.
All in all - without giving anything away, I am enjoying the story, the glimpse into Gulf state culture and more so Islamic based mythology.
I'm going to start this as soon as I finish up the latest Jim Butcher, Skin Game, and the 2nd powdermage book, The Crimson Campaign. This has been on my "to read" list for awhile and a group read always motivates me :D.
Just finished Storm Front and found this on my kindle. That's the trouble with one click, I own all sorts that I forget about!
