When I'm feeling in need of a little retail therapy but the bank account doen't agree I and knowing I can't contain myself if I set foot in a store I have discovered Amazon window shopping.
It's like the Mall of America only without the bad parking and having to walk. I even made my own wish list with the silliest things on it. Whats on your wish list?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Tera, I have about 100 books on my Wish List. I created a folder on my Goodreads "My Books" and add them whenever someone posts about a book that I can't resist. The Wish List is a dangerous thing, I've found. I printed it out on my last trip south. While I didn't fill my suitcase, I did have to avail myself of the extra bag I'd taken with me.

Nadia A (bagambo) I have a wish list too! I have some books on there, but mainly I have dvd sets on there. I miss so much tv that I always wind up getting the tv series of my fave shows on dvd so I can catch up. I love adding to my wish list - of course I love getting items from my wish list even more :)

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 319 comments I have a wish list. Well, actually several because I divided mine up into categories for books, movies, healthy living stuff and other.

I agree that it's great retail therapy when you don't have the money to actually go shopping.

I usually only list my books on GoodReads as I start to read them or know it's one of the next 3 or 4 I'll be reading and I already own it. My Amazon wish list is where I put all the books I see that I want to read, but don't yet own.

Holli Oh I love Wish Lists! My Crate and Barrel one gets excessive at times. Off to make an Amazon one now... thanks so much Tera.... ;)

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* I have a long wish list on paperback swap but not on Amazon. Goodness on Amazon I could go nuts because they have books and so much other goodies!. I do love the lists people make up there.

I'm like Shelby. I have a long wish list on paperback swap. And it is actually fun to check it occasionally and see how close you are to actually getting one of your wished for books!

Jcwillis53 Brown (southerncomfortauthor) | 90 comments I am going to wish that at least one of my 2 books that are available to purchase makes it to the top 100 on Amazon! After that happens I will really be able to make a Wish List!!!!!!!!

Beth | 163 comments Tera, I have wish lists on Amazon and Paperback swap - I have to manage between the two of them as I give in and make purchases or receive gifts or have wishes met on Paperbackswap. It is quite an effort to stay organized sometimes, but I am so thankful for the wishlist feature on both! Browsing without leaving the house and then being able to re-visit those browses at my leisure -perfect! Oh and I also love that I can give my family access to my amazon list when they ask me what I want for birthdays and Christmas!!
To answer your question - my wish list on Amazon is usually filled with newly published works of my favorite authors or books that I've read intriguing reviews on that won't make it to paperbackswap for awhile.

Sherri (sherjonesy) I have such a loooong wish list on Half.com
I don't think I've ever bought a book from amazon...

I used to find the recommendations useful and also the customer reviews. BUT, now with Goodreads and Chicks on Lit I feel like I can get all that and more! :D

Rowena (rowenacherry) | 44 comments Tip. (I've nothing to gain by sharing this info, I just happened to follow a Google Alert for one of my books, and thought this a better deal for readers than selling on Amazon, EBay, or Craigslist.)

If swapping doesn't work, or works out too costly in postage... or indeed if Amazon's used books work out too expensive in postage and handling

Powells

Starling I've used the Amazon wish list for years. I've also been known to put a book on the wish list, and then realize when I'm ready to do some buying that I don't actually want it. So it is good for that as well.

I've been buying books, and other things, from Amazon since a month or two after they opened. There was a new book in a series that I just had to have and none of the big bookstores had bothered putting it on the shelves a week after it came out. It wasn't a best seller so why would anyone really want it now? ...[sigh:]... I realized that if I wanted a specific book, instead of wanting to browse I needed to buy online, and back then online meant Amazon.

I've also bought used books through them, found the company that supplies ink for my unusual photo printer through them, and most recently bought my second set of the most amazing sheets from them. Sometimes I find a vendor through them and then buy from that vendor directly. But on one occasion the deal through Amazon was better than the deal directly.

I've looked at Powells, but haven't bought from them as yet.

My Sephora and Target wish lists are just as out of control as mine on Amazon. :)

Krys (incognerdo) | 140 comments My Amazon wish list is amazingly long. :) I love it. I actually use it for book lists. I have an iPhone app that lets me see what's on my wish list.... so I don't get "distracted" in Barnes and Noble. :)

message 21: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments That is cool Kristin; that you can access your wish list from your IPhone! I take a printed out list with me sometimes to the bookstore but it would be so much easier to access it from your phone.
