On a Saturday Night Live skit, Amy unknowingly mocked a real disabled girl – Anastasia Somoza, wherein she and her twin sister have cerebral palsy and their story turned into a TV movie called "Hurricane Mary," referred to in the skit. Months after Amy's SNL skit, she is confronted via letter by Marianne Leone and Chris Cooper, both actors that advocate for disabled children, Marianne having written "Hurricane Mary."
While Amy did not respond to the letter right away, she did send her own message to Anastasia some years later, apologizing to her and her sister. More notably from the experience, however, was Anastasia's response to the apology and how it effected Amy. As she states, "That email changed me. It rearranged my molecules... She teaches me about compassion."
Have you ever had any experiences – good or bad – that "changed your molecules"? Please share if you are comfortable doing so.
