Kristina | 588 comments I'm am reading a really fun book! The Legend of Eli Monpress! It's actually and omnibus-so it's the first 3 books of the series-but it's very much a less gritty, more magical "Lies of Locke Lamora". It's got a cool magic system and the characters are great. I wanted to recommend it because I'd never heard of it before my son picked it up off the shelf at the bookstore and asked me to buy it for us.

Jennifer Swerbensky | 75 comments I stayed up late last night to finish up Heir of Novron. I absolutely loved this series. And the weirdest part of it is, that I'm not exactly sure why. I figured out most of the twists so nothing really surprised me, but I loved the story anyway. I loved pretty much all of the characters. I guess I just thought it was all kinds of fun.

So next I'm moving on to Dead Beat. Which shouldn't take me too long. And then I'll probably move on to something in the Laser realm. Not really sure what at this point, I've just been reading so much fantasy lately, I'm in need of a change.

message 203: by Alan (new)

Alan | 534 comments I finished Wool Omnibus, Hounded and The Warded Man this month. All of those books have been discussed a lot in this group so my reviews would be superfluous. I'm now reading The Thousand Names so I can try the "other" flintlock fantasy that came out this year.

message 204: by Carolina (new)

Carolina I'm reading The Sound of Things Falling and so far is very good. Also The Picture of Dorian Gray that I've never read and I wanted to read ever since I started watching Penny Dreadful. Oh, and just started Brilliance.

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished reading The City and the City. Excellent stuff. I get the buzz behind Mieville now; definitely looking forward to Perdido Street Station even more! Here's my review

I feel the same way about the ryiria books. They are just so fun!

message 207: by Jack (new)

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) This month was a good month for new books. First, Earth Awakens by Card/Johnston and then The Long Mars by Pratchett/Baxter. I'm also listening to the new Stephen King because I was so impressed with Doctor Sleep and Wind Through The Keyhole, but it's almost at the lemming point right now. Gonna at least get to the 50% point.

Yeah I just finished listening to Mr. Mercedes and it wasn't bad, just very, very average and it didn't feel very Stephen King like at all.

message 209: by Sheila Jean (new)

Sheila Jean | 330 comments Finished off two audio books this week: Red Seas Under Red Skies and Divergent(which I started in March and just left hanging til now). My next audiobook isThe Republic of Thieves

Finally finished The Forgotten Garden and making progress toward wrapping up City of Golden Shadow as well. I requested Cibola Burn and Daughter of Smoke & Bone from the library... will see what comes first.

message 210: by Robert (new)

Robert (rfox131) | 30 comments Listening to Ulysses right now. Really really really weird. Not very impressed so far.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments Robert wrote: "Listening to Ulysses right now. Really really really weird. Not very impressed so far."

It goes better with some companion books.

message 212: by Joel (new)

Joel I just finished rereading the Hobbit. I really enjoyed it a lot. It's always good to revisit the classics. Now I am currently reading Legion by Brandon Sanderson. It's been a lot of fun so far. Then perhaps I will read Lirael by Garth Nix.

message 213: by Rod (last edited Jun 26, 2014 10:11AM) (new)

Rod (terez07) I am currently halfway through my re-read of The Passage(an excellent novel!). My plan is to start on it's sequel The Twelve after I am done. Next will be the sci-fi anthology Long Hidden: Speculative Fiction from the Margins of History. I'm VERY excited to read that one too.

I read [book:Daughter of Smoke & Bone
recently and enjoyed it. Hope you do too!

message 215: by Joseph (last edited Jun 26, 2014 04:39PM) (new)

Joseph | 2433 comments Finished The Tower Broken, a fine end to the trilogy, and started Baptism of Fire, the most recently translated Witcher novel by Andrzej Sapkowski.

message 216: by Walter (new)

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 707 comments Just finished The Lodger. Wasn't expecting the primary focus to be what it was. Far darker in its implications than I'd expected it to be, particularly in a novel written so long ago. Interesting (and revealing) commentary on people and their priorities.

message 217: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan | 126 comments I am working on Book 13 of the Wheel of Time: Towers of Midnight.

message 218: by Shaun (new)

Shaun | 4 comments Finished Ancillary Justice and just started Shield and Crocus.

message 219: by Casey (new)

Casey | 654 comments Just finished Steel World by B. V. Larson.
My review.

I'm not certain, but I think Dead Man's Hand by John Joseph Adams is next on my list.

message 220: by David Sven (new)

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments Finished Embassytown by China Mieville
My review

More Mieville coming up with Perdido Street Station

message 221: by Jules (new)

Jules | 7 comments I'm trying my second attempt at Neuromancer. My first was on audible and I just couldn't get into it. Reading the paperback this time but still reeeally struggling. It's not that I don't like it, I do (I think...), but 80% of the time I am LOST. I need a lot of caffeine and perhaps a second read-through before it all sinks in.

message 222: by Joanna Chaplin (new)

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments I just finished Blindsight as part of my quest to read all the S&L picks that the club read before I joined. Some of the discussions of consciousness remind me of the ones from Harmony. Except Harmony is a little less about possible aliens and more about a medical nanny-state gone awry.

Get a Kindle or Kindle Fire - adjustable fonts are my friend.

Keidy | 525 comments Tamahome wrote: "Checking out Outlander. I guess it's Game of Thrones for women. I wish there were a font size for middle aged people."

I wouldn't call it "Game of Thrones for women". It's more historical fantasy than anything else. Just sayin'. ^_^;

But I highly recommend it. I read Outlander about a month or two ago and I thought it was great! For as long as the book was, I couldn't put it down till I finished. My Review

message 227: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4407 comments For whatever it's worth, I really enjoyed Outlander. I recently bought it in audio to re-read before the show starts. I never read the others in the series but that's just because I've had soooooo much to read.

Typing on my phone so no links, I recently finished Curiosity Thrilled the Cat and Sleight of Paw, some crazy magical cat lady mysteries. I've got one more to read in my queue. I also finished reading Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt, which was fascinating and depressing and intriguing.

I started listening to Dawn and have also started reading Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation. The first has me intrigued though uncertain, the second is just filling my nerd needs (I was and still am a Nintendo girl in the war of Nintendo vs Sega).

I have some other things in the queue, including the third magical cat mystery, so we'll see what suits my fancy...

message 228: by Ally (new)

Ally Just made the decision to DNF The Best of All Possible Worlds so am starting the anthology "Reach for Infinity" and in my car I have the full cast audio recording of Daja's Book (Circle of Magic #3) for commutes.

message 229: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Night Terrors. Have you read The Nekropolis Archives? In that case you're probably going to want to avoid that. If you haven't, it's a fun read. Here's my review

I'm gonna continue reading Perdido Street Station, really interested in where it's headed so far. When I'm done that, depending on how much I enjoyed it I'll probably go straight into The Scar, or I'll dig into my ARC of The Mirror Empire whiles I wait on Half a King to hatch.

message 230: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 2433 comments Finished Baptism of Fire, the latest (translated) Witcher novel -- quite good although very much a section of a larger story -- and am starting The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard by, well ...

message 233: by Sky (new)

Sky | 665 comments Just finished Prince of Fools, reading the last two PoB short stories and Rogues while I wait to start Dawn on the 1st

message 234: by Phil (new)

Phil | 1455 comments Just finished The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. Not sure I liked it enough to continue the series.
Just starting The Dolphins of Pern by Anne McCaffrey.

message 235: by Kami (new)

Kami | 3 comments Finished Blade Reforged and Percepliquis.
The Fallen Blade series was interesting, enjoyed it despite some of thr more boring aspects and redundancy.
Then there is Riyria. It had been sitting in my kindle library for quite some time, so I finally got around to reading them. The entire series was great, by far one of the best series I've read.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments Phil wrote: "Just finished The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. Not sure I liked it enough to continue the series."

In my opinion, the first book is the best one, if that helps at all.

message 237: by Casey (new)

Casey | 654 comments Just finished up Dead Man's Hand edited by John Joseph Adams.
My review.

Next up is Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Not a bad series. It's a little harsh on religion but, it can be thought provoking.

message 239: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 65 comments I finished The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta. I liked it and the ending definitely left me wanting more. Now its on to Dawnby Octavia Butler for July. Then I may finally get around to reading The Shadowed Sun by N. K. Jemisin.

message 240: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) Just picked up Shadows Beneath: The Writing Excuses Anthology because I'm a sucker for all things Cosmere. And the annotations that Brandon puts on his website for some of his books are fascinating so this will be very interesting. Plus there are 3 other stories.

Yeah. I'm greatly regretting not doing it sooner. I've had Tower Lord since last week and it only came out today. I could have been making more people jealous! ^_^

I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.
