I was introduced by this book from some quotes on Tumblr and actually read the whole series in a weekend (and ended up suffering one of the worst reading hangovers of my LIFE).

(view spoiler)[I personally think the first book was the strongest of the series. I felt uncomfortable with the subject matter, but felt that the story was told well. I do agree with a LOT of others that it had a Battle Royale feel to it, though whether or not the author actually used the book/movie as a reference I have no opinion on.

This is where my dislike of love triangles in YA started. I could understand how this one ended up happening, but the trope became really old really fast. (hide spoiler)]

YES! This was(view spoiler)[ one of my first read love triangles too
and I disliked it then as well.

I agree, the first book was the strongest. At the time I read it, I had wanted her to end with Gale so I was really disappointed in book 3.
but the movies really helped me see that Peeta was a better choice for her :) lol (hide spoiler)]

I love the Hunger Games so much, it's my absolute favorite sci-fi book. The whole series is amazing, but I felt like the first two are virtually perfect and Mockingjay was only a 4 star read for me. I wish I hadn't ignored all the hype when the book first released!

(view spoiler)[I feel like I see way more "team Gale" people out there, but I didn't see any reason to root for him. He always seemed so much less interested in Katniss than rebelling against the Capital. I don't mind how the series ended, but to be honest I wasn't invested in the love triangle enough to be upset either way. I would love to reread these books if I had the time. I wonder if the audio is any good. (hide spoiler)]

As interested as I am in I can't imagine it's good enough to beat THG.

The hunger games is the ultimate YA series for me. It's where it all began, the first YA series I read after many years of reading mainly adult fiction. If I hadn't read it before and would read it now, I don't know whether I'd find it that good. It's hard to imagine. It's also hard to compare other books with it because it's just THE ONE. But I've got high expectations for The testing. Too bad I probably won't have time to read it this month.

I love THG. It's my favorite YA dystopian trilogy. It's simply the best! I recently reread the first book so I'm not going to read it this month, but I will read The Testing if I get a chance.

Yes! this was for me too! The first dystopian I read in a long long time and really loved it! it definitely set up reading more YA for me too!
