On to the topic at hand, you read correctly: my book Estranged features a world where hugs can kill. The monsters of the story, called Estranged, are normal people who have been infected by a mysterious entity known as the darkness, a condition which shows itself by turning fingernails black. The infection is spread by skin-to-skin contact, hence, a hug. Not everyone is turned though, there is a 50-50 chance the victim will simply die. People who are touched never know which fate they will get until it is too late. It sounds cheesy, I know, but Estranged is a new author's attempt to take a hard look at topics such as substance abuse and stereotypes while blending in the action and fantasy elements of a dystopian thriller.
Winner of an Indie Brag Award where it earned 4/5 stars in all categories except cover, where it won 3 stars. (Updating the cover is next on my to-do list)
