Trisha's 2017 challenge
Finished I See You - Clare Mackintosh, for Bookopoly contemporary. A very clever book, particularly scary for those of us who travel alone on the London Underground!Finished Three Men in a Boat - Jerome K. Jerome.
Finished A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains - Isabella L. Bird. Definitely not for me, I was really bored by the endless tedious descriptions of everyday life. A series of letters? I felt sorry for the recipient.
Finished Love, Lies and Lemon Cake - Sue Watson. Ok, but more "chick lit" than expected from the preview sample.
Finished The Enchanted April - Elizabeth von Arnim. I thought this was her best book of those I've read so far.
Finished David Copperfield (Centaur Classics) The 100 greatest novels of all time - #64 - Charles Dickens, my 100th book this year. I have updated my challenge to aim for 150 books.
Finished Kicking the Bucket List - Cathy Hopkins for Bookopoly, Theme: love. A fun read - a bit "chick lit" perhaps, but also a clever & unusual story.
Finished The Raven - Edgar Allan Poe, & In the Year 2889 - Jules Verne for Bookopoly Travel Ahead. Both were only short, thankfully, as I didn't enjoy either of them though the poem had a lovely rhythm & some of the ideas for 2889 were very creative.
Also read The Purloined Letter - Edgar Allan Poe (different edition), which I enjoyed more.
Finished The Secret by the Lake - Louise Douglas which completes Fantasy Faire level 2, Fly with dragons. I loved this book, which a friend lent to me.Finished The Schoolmistress, and other stories - Anton Chekhov which includes The Bet.
Finished Discover Someone New: Free Sampler - Cecelia Ahern. An introduction to 10 authors that I hadn't read before. Boring, there was only one I would consider reading again.
Finished The House at Sea's End - Elly Griffiths. Loved it - & it ended in a way that I am longing to read the next in the series!
Finished Dead Woman Walking - Sharon Bolton.Finished The Cradle Will Fall - Clare Donoghue, a short story that introduces characters in a series of books.
Finished I Know My Name - C.J. Cooke. For most of this book I thought it was a 5* read, but an unexpected twist near the end ruined it for me.
Sonia wrote: "Persuasion is my favourite book in the world!! Did you like it?"Oh Sonia - no, sorry, I really didn't enjoy it at all.
Sonia wrote: "Oh never mind. That's what makes this group interesting though. What didn't you like? Was there anything you did like?"I struggle with Jane Austen's books, but quite like the films of them as good actors bring them to life. I think many of the women seem irritating & spineless by modern standards, though perhaps they were forced to behave that way then. But they didn't do much except gossip & look for husbands - how would they have coped with full time jobs, doing their own housework, etc?

I read it a while ago, but didn't enjoy it as much - possibly because it was my first Forster book. Some time I must read it again.
