Ah, I missed that.

The first clue that the "pilgrim" is Jewish is the barukh he recites. Albeit in English since Brother Francis understands the words but not the significance.

It's stunning how many things you can see that Brother Francis does not get. the description of what he fears in the fall-out shelter, especially.
