Presidential Anecdotes by Paul F. Boller Jr..
I have read only Chapter One and I am already in love with George Washington! The anecdotes give a wonderful impression of his personality. Below is an example:

"General Lee reported ... to the Washingtons at breakfast ... '[Gilbert] Stuart says you have a tremendous temper. ... he added that the President had it under wonderful control.'
"With something like a smile, Washington remarked, 'He's right'."
