I love the way Peabody's personality is emerging more and more as the series progresses. She's gaining confidence and coming into her own. I love her snarky humor...and obsession over body image. Her "good angel/bad angel" scene in this story is hilarious.

So...any thoughts on Eve being Roarke's "biker b*tch"?? Lol
I may have swooned over the image of Roarke straddling a motorcycle...sigh.

Myst | 72 comments At least the In Death novellas are easy to find.

Some of the series I read with novellas, they're spread in obscure anthologies, website only content that's password protected and you need the password from some newsletter, or are only in ebook format for a few bucks.

Mara Pemberton (marapem) I thought Eve quipped that Roarke could be her BIKER B**** and he just smiled at her.

Michelle | 2651 comments I love how Eve is always surprised that he would not get something sensible. By now you'd think she'd know to expect something new that has to be tested or put through its paces or just a toy Roarke enjoys

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I've finally gotten caught up...I loved this one even though it was a novella.

Sandra ~ ♥ Cross My Heart ♥ wrote: "Share your thoughts on Commander Skinner and the role he played in Interlude along with his comments to Eve. He brings up the subject of Eve's "ill advised" decision to marry Roarke implying that i..."

I really disliked Skinner until I found out that he had a terminal illness that was affecting his judgment. Then I just kind of felt sorry for him.

I don't really get the impression from Eve (this is my first time reading the series) that she is aspiring for a promotion. I think she is really comfortable with her rank and position and doesn't want to be behind a desk. She loves the action and solving each case. I also think (even though she complains about it) she loves when Roarke is involved in solving the cases with her.

I don't necessarily think it was the "right" thing for Roarke to go so Skinner without telling Eve but in Roarke's mind, it was. The nightmare that Roarke had was really upsetting. I think it was because he is always in such control and always helping Eve through her nightmares, that I didn't think he would have any. He's always taking care of everyone else.

I really love how Peabody's personality is evolving too. At first, she seemed to have almost an introverted personality. Now, she's starting to really speak up for herself. (Although I don't think she should have talked to Charles when she was in the middle of a tryst with McNab. I'm not sure if that was in this book or the last one. They're starting to feel like one long story...)

Phrynne | 366 comments Having just finished book 44 in the series I agree with you Karen - it is just one long delicious story. And may it go on for a very long time yet.

Some great points, Karen! I agree. I thought there was a lot of "punch" packed into this short novella. I'm still sometimes amazed how much character development can occur even in these short stories. And the case is always well developed & intriguing also.

I'm such a fan of Peabody...I can not wait for you to continue getting to know her as she develops throughout this series. She provides some of my favorite moments - and especially makes me laugh. lol

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I think Peabody and Eve have some of the same qualities. They are both intelligent women who do their job well but sometimes they are clueless when it comes to their personal relationships.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 798 comments One thing that appeals to me in the books and novellas (so far) is that the author doesn't need to put any "filler" in these short books. They are exciting enough and can be read quickly, with a satisfied reader resulting every time!

Really good point! You're right...no filler used or needed in these books.

message 66: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I noticed that too, Charlene. Many times, novellas are just meh for me. But not these.

Karen (rhyta) | 184 comments Hi Karen :)
I agree with the others, Roarke shouldn't have gone behind Eve's back to confront Skinner but I am not surprised that he did. The nightmare he had made him seem a bit more human, that he isn't always in control and perfect. I think that is one of the things that link Eve and Roarke, their pasts and their imperfect ways of overcoming them.

I had forgotten the bits of info about the possible link of their fathers in this novella. Things are coming together and look forward to reading about them soon. This was just what I needed, had a fun evening listening to this novella and thoroughly enjoyed it!

message 68: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments Hi, Karen! As I was listening to this novella, I remember thinking, I bet there will be more info about their fathers that comes out in future books. As I'm listening to these books, I keep sitting there with my mouth hanging open, saying What?

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments It took me a bit to get caught up on these so I was reading 2-3 a month. Now that I'm caught up, I feel like I'm in ID withdrawal...

Welcome to the club! I ended up just starting over and reading them again:)

message 72: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2651 comments this is the second buddy read of this series for me Karen. The last time we also averaged 2 a month. That how we started the buddy read again. I was going into withdrawal . amazing what pressure does. ( sorry Sandra . I want to say I won't do it again but I probably will)

What Michelle is saying, Karen, is that she's the reason I'm back leading another buddy read of this series!!! LOL! She twisted my arm! haha Well - not literally, but you know what I mean. Seriously, some of us felt lost after completing the last br of the series and after a short time, I think we talked each other into doing it again. Here we are! The good thing is this series is so long that by the time you read all the books, the first ones almost feel new again. And they're just that good!

We did read 2 a month the last time, but I read so many other books (as you well know) that I can't maintain that pace again...one a month is all I can work in. I do understand how a first time reader would be anxious to continue at a faster rate though...been there, done that. If you decide to read ahead, just be sure to fall back & discuss each book with us. It greatly enhances the experience imo.

message 74: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments Just so glad others felt the same way...lol. No, I have so many other books to read, I'm just going to read 1 a month. This way, it will be fresh in my mind for discussing.
