So...any thoughts on Eve being Roarke's "biker b*tch"?? Lol
I may have swooned over the image of Roarke straddling a motorcycle...sigh.

Some of the series I read with novellas, they're spread in obscure anthologies, website only content that's password protected and you need the password from some newsletter, or are only in ebook format for a few bucks.

I really disliked Skinner until I found out that he had a terminal illness that was affecting his judgment. Then I just kind of felt sorry for him.
I don't really get the impression from Eve (this is my first time reading the series) that she is aspiring for a promotion. I think she is really comfortable with her rank and position and doesn't want to be behind a desk. She loves the action and solving each case. I also think (even though she complains about it) she loves when Roarke is involved in solving the cases with her.

Roarke is always depicted as being so in control - whether it's his horrible childhood, h..."
I don't necessarily think it was the "right" thing for Roarke to go so Skinner without telling Eve but in Roarke's mind, it was. The nightmare that Roarke had was really upsetting. I think it was because he is always in such control and always helping Eve through her nightmares, that I didn't think he would have any. He's always taking care of everyone else.

I really love how Peabody's personality is evolving too. At first, she seemed to have almost an introverted personality. Now, she's starting to really speak up for herself. (Although I don't think she should have talked to Charles when she was in the middle of a tryst with McNab. I'm not sure if that was in this book or the last one. They're starting to feel like one long story...)

Some great points, Karen! I agree. I thought there was a lot of "punch" packed into this short novella. I'm still sometimes amazed how much character development can occur even in these short stories. And the case is always well developed & intriguing also.
I'm such a fan of Peabody...I can not wait for you to continue getting to know her as she develops throughout this series. She provides some of my favorite moments - and especially makes me laugh. lol

I agree with the others, Roarke shouldn't have gone behind Eve's back to confront Skinner but I am not surprised that he did. The nightmare he had made him seem a bit more human, that he isn't always in control and perfect. I think that is one of the things that link Eve and Roarke, their pasts and their imperfect ways of overcoming them.
I had forgotten the bits of info about the possible link of their fathers in this novella. Things are coming together and look forward to reading about them soon. This was just what I needed, had a fun evening listening to this novella and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Happy you caught up, Karen! Seduction is up next - another good one! But then, they all are! lol

What Michelle is saying, Karen, is that she's the reason I'm back leading another buddy read of this series!!! LOL! She twisted my arm! haha Well - not literally, but you know what I mean. Seriously, some of us felt lost after completing the last br of the series and after a short time, I think we talked each other into doing it again. Here we are! The good thing is this series is so long that by the time you read all the books, the first ones almost feel new again. And they're just that good!
We did read 2 a month the last time, but I read so many other books (as you well know) that I can't maintain that pace again...one a month is all I can work in. I do understand how a first time reader would be anxious to continue at a faster rate though...been there, done that. If you decide to read ahead, just be sure to fall back & discuss each book with us. It greatly enhances the experience imo.
