ABANDONED. Late 70s early 80s YA girl called the block runs away to join a pop group

Girl has a great voice finds a rock group she joins. She is called the block because of her hairstyle. The group get famous. She won't talk to reporters and personality changes to tough.. she likes one of the boys I think but he doesn't treat her very well. Such a long time ago I read it and it keeps jumping back to the front of my reading brain. I think it was written in first person.
