Janna (fortunateizzi) | 50 comments I remember it was a young adult or maybe middlegrade novel about a pair of identical twin sisters who switch places. I don't remember why, but they pretend to be each other while at school. I think one of them might have played soccer or some sport like that. It's possible one was a tomboy while the other was girly, but I'm not sure. It was a fun, light book.

I bought it at a used bookstore in probably the late 90s. I have a feeling the book was older, though, because I think it had one of those cheesy covers that YA books had in the 80s. It probably wasn't great literature, hehe.

It's just been driving me crazy because I am usually able to figure out book titles by Googling, but this one has given me trouble. In fact, I was thinking the title was Double Trouble, but that doesn't seem to be the case. (I think I must have been mixing it up with Double Trouble Squared by Kathryn Lasky which I've also read.)

And no, it wasn't an Olsen twins book. ;)

what about one of the Sweet Valley High books? Those twins were like that--one tomboyish and one girlie-girl?

My daughter read a LOT of those, it was an entire series. I think at one time she had like 20 of them.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Well, Despite what the GR record currently says, it was published waaaaayyy before 1990, but Lottie and Lisa is the book the movie The Parent Trap was based on. It's probably old-fashioned and wouldn't have seemed like a new book a decade ago, but thought I'd put it out there.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 57 comments Ann, I adored the Sweet Valley books when I was young!

There's one called April Fool where they seem to switch places.

The Sweet Valley books are blonde twins Jessica and Elizabeth. Jessica is popular and on the cheerleading squad. Elizabeth is quiet one and writes for the school paper.

rivka I'll third the SVH suggestion. (And the first dozen books were pretty good. After that they got cheesy and soap-opera-y.)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 57 comments rivka, I was reading the descriptors for all the books in the series, as well as the character descriptions...

How could I have forgotten The Unicorn Club?! Are you wearing something purple?

Wow...

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments Twin Switch by Jamie Suzanne, 1999.

Summary:
Jessica gets her superperfect, ultrasweet twin sister, Elizabeth, to help her out of a jam, but the old "trading places" trick gets the twins in some interesting situations.

Twin Switch (Sweet Valley Jr. High #10) by Francine Pascal Twin Switch by Francine Pascal.

Regan (livingscenery) | 49 comments Could it be Twin Switch by Carol Stanley?

I remember one of them was really smart and played the violin and the other one was a runner.

message 9: by April Ann (new)

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments That's looks like it Regan!

Janna (fortunateizzi) | 50 comments Although the premise was similar to Twin Switch by Pascal, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a SVH book. I purposely stayed away from that series. :)

Not Lottie and Lisa either.

But hmmm that Twin Switch by Carol Stanley has the type of cover I am talking about! The plot doesn't sound right, though, because I remember the twins went to school, so it couldn't take place at a grandmother's house over the summer. Also I don't think the parents were divorced and they all lived together.

Lol...Naruto Rocks! (Katelyn, Haku.) The Parent Trap?
((lol...that's a movie.))

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Katelyn, Yes, The Parent Trap has been made as a movie twice, and it was based on the book Lottie and Lisa .

any of these?? it was a whole series...

Janna (fortunateizzi) | 50 comments No, I don't think so. Thanks for trying, everyone! So far the only one that has had me doubting my memory is Twin Switch by Carol Stanley, mainly because of the cover... although it's not that I remember it, it just looks familiar because I definitely read some of those Scholastic Apple books.

message 15: by April Ann (new)

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments April Fool! by Francine Pascal was first published in 1989. If you look where it says "other editions" you'll see a picture of a cover.

It's actually #28 of the "Sweet Valley Twins" series.

Summary:The Wakefield twins' April Fool's Day joke turns out a bit unexpectedly as Elizabeth must take the blame for things her sister does wrong.

message 16: by Janna (new) - added it

Janna (fortunateizzi) | 50 comments Nope, definitely wasn't a Sweet Valley book. I know I never read any of them.

message 17: by Kinsey (new)

Kinsey Swartz (tvindy) | 131 comments The Parent Trap was based on a book, but there was also a book version of the movie:
Parent Trap by Vic Crume Parent Trap
(I actually read this in elementary school several years before I had a chance to catch the movie on TV.) It's a longshot, though, because, Janna doesn't remember the parents being divorced.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 57 comments Wow. I totally forgot about this series and seeing the cover for Pink Lemonade Charade made me freak out a little.

Check out Cynthia Blair's Pratt Twins series, because they've got the cheezy covers and the twins seem to switch in almost every other book.

And if that still isn't the right path, may I suggest getting in touch with this wacky blogger who seems to know EVERYTHING about the 80s/90s cheese genres?

(Everyone here needs to look at this page for the book cover images alone. Courtney Cox in full 80s effect!)

rivka Oh, my. It's the real SVH covers!

Kate (katespofford) | 261 comments These are kind of longshots but...

Mallory And The Trouble With Twins (Baby-Sitters Club Collector's Edition #21) by Ann M. Martin Mallory And The Trouble With Twins
This was a Baby-Sitters Club book, so it's mostly about Mallory having trouble telling the twins apart.

Twins by Caroline B. Cooney Twins
This was the only real "YA" book I found that sort of fit the description, but it's more of a paranormal suspense novel.

The Judge Is Seeing Double (Dutch Mill Stable Story) by Nancy Grossman The Judge Is Seeing Double
This was from a series of horse books called Dutch Mill Farms. This book was about red-haired twins who share a horse that seems to be the only one who can tell them apart. Not sure if any switching is involved...

When I first read your description I immediately thought of that movie "She's the Man" (based on SHakespeare's 12th Night) because the girl plays soccer, but it is a boy/girl set of twins.

Janna (fortunateizzi) | 50 comments Hey everyone, I asked the person at that Cliquey Pizza blog and they found the book!! It's Double Trouble by Michael Pellowski. I remembered the title afterall! I just couldn't find it in a search without the author's name for some reason. But as soon as I saw the cover, I knew that was it.
