Are you a senior? Free time, you are lucky, my kids were crazy busy their senior year, well every year of high school, I also have an eighth grader, he and I have been home for the past five days just him and me sick, I told him today it's a good thing we like each other :-)

I'm actually a Junior, but I'm graduating early this year :) I've got so much free time now because I did most of the hard work in my first 2 1/2 years, and that I'm not really participating in the extra senior activities because I really only know other junior students, not seniors. So yay free time!
In California your freshman grades don't count, even if you take advanced classes your freshman year, only your sophomore and junior years count when applying to colleges, so those years you have to step it up big time.... it is super competitive to get into the UC system in California and fact the school where my son goes had the second highest amount of applicants, second to UCLA over 100,000 applicants, also if you don't do extracurriculars, you are not getting in, my daughter was a cheerleader and on ASB and my son played baseball... it is pretty cut throat...
Yea the system over here in Florida is different, but cutthroat as well. But I've taken a myriad of AP classes and am quite advanced in most areas (enough so to graduate early without much difficulty.) I also plan to be going to college in Europe (The Netherlands to be exact), so the system works differently compared to here in almost all aspects regardless. So I've tailored my "academic resume" to fit those needs, which is slightly more demanding in an academic way, and less so in an extracurricular way :)
Good job Meghan. Sounds like you have a real solid plan. I wish you the best of luck.
My kids would never look into anything that far away, my daughter is seriously 20 minutes away from me, it's actually more like she's 20 minutes away from her boyfriend, LOL! My son actually has three roommates that are from different countries, UCSD has a lot of international students... he actually graduated high school with almost a year worth of a P credit, and that is so nice because you do get to register for classes earlier, and you would think he would graduate earlier, however he keeps changing his major it is now economics with a double minor in Psychology and Political Science... he wants to go into Behavioral Economics... my daughter isn't exactly the student that her brother is, she partied a little too much her sophomore year, and then if she did not get above a 4.0 her junior year she was doomed, but she pulled it off, and actually got into quite a few schools, I think she wrote a very good essay explaining the hardship of her sophomore year... she did bgraduate with some AP credit, but not ah lot, wants to be a teacher special ed, so she's not in quite as competitive of an environment....
I completely agree with Cynthia, very impressed, and I'm most impressed with the fact that you took this path at such a young age, and what an amazing adventure you will go on going to college in the Netherlands :-) what do you want to study?
I wrote my review, but my phone is acting up, and I am starting to feel really really horrible again, so I'm going to bed but I will post in the thread in the morning :-) we have so much time and you are all off to such a fabulous start :-)
I mainly chose the Netherlands because it has a cheaper tuition (especially for citizens, which I am through my parents), overall a more rigorous education, and family ties in that country compared to other European countries :) but I'm planning on studying English Literature and Society, and probably go into an English master after!
I can't find my The Darkest Minds book!!!;( I'm super sad. I'm gonna look all over again...
No. I WILL find it!! Thank you I appreciate it.
Yeay!! I made my child help me look and HE found it!!! It was in his room. A little suspicious. He says he didn't take it.
I finished Rose and the Dagger yesterday, just need to write the review :) currently reading the glass sword and star touched queen as well!
Let me know how you like the star touched queen.
I am currently reading an non-BR. I'm going to give the Raven boys a second chance since I got it in audiobook.

Cynthia on audio he is a good narrator but I'd speed up the speed to at least 1.5, He talks very slow..... and I actually really enjoyed that book I still need to read the last book in the series though :-)
Still have to review The Rose and The Dagger, and I finished Glass Sword last night as well! Both are BRs, and so is StarTouched Queen, which is what I'm working on today!
@cami: Sarah counted the missing points for Raven boys. Yeay!! We back on top!!
Cinthia wrote: "@cami: Sarah counted the missing points for Raven boys. Yeay!! We back on top!!"Oh great! Thanks for the heads up about the different edition, I didn't even see it.
I don't have a lot of BR's planned. I will try to see if I can get some more. I know it helps with points. Otherwise I'm not going to bring in a lot of points. Most of the books I will be reading aren't very long nor do they have any long versions.
I'm BR a bunch of Sophie Kinsella books, if that's anything you're interested in :-) but I wouldn't worry too much, it is better to read books you enjoy then struggling through stuff you don't want to readjust for points...

I'm gonna read my first Sophie book. I just got it from the library I'm a couple of days late reading it though. I think the BR was for the 3rd.
I can't seem to get into Star touched queen, so I'm putting that to the side for now and starting Caraval, which is another buddy read :) I really really just want to start King's Cage though xD but I'm gonna wait a few days and start with the BR that's going on
Sorry to hear you didn't like the star touched queen. To be honest it wasn't one of my favorites either. I hope you like caraval though.
I think I'm mainly just in the wrong mindset, I barely even got anything read. The entire blurb and setup is super similar to Wrath and Dawn, so I just kinda kept comparing the two. I'm sure it changes later on, and diversifies, but I'll just wait to where I haven't just read Wrath and Dawn. Maybe after Caraval and Scythe I can get into it :)
Later today I will make a shelf of books that I own. Then whoever wants to can look through and pick some books to read.
Hey everyone, so I'm going to be away at a provincial competition tomorrow, Friday and a bit of Saturday, but I''ll try to get some reading done. I'm almost finished the book I'm reading so hopefully I can write a review on my spare time.
Good luck with your competition! :)I just finished Caraval, and am starting Scythe! I'll either write my Caraval review tomorrow, or write both Scythe's and Caraval's at the same time :) both are BR's as well!
Sorry I'm falling behind girls. I've been having to work too much. I'll try to do my updates. I should have it done by the weekend. Work is getting on the way. I'm doing 16 hr shifts the next 3 days so I won't be able to read much until the beginning of next week.
I work at a mental hospital. Psychiatric technician. I work of shift so I get to read some on my free time but then I have to say on ams so that's busy, then I come home, shower, cook for my child, eat, sleep. At least for the next 3 days. :(
I hope it all goes well! Sounds like a lot of work D:I hoped to have Scythe done today but it goes so slow even though I've been reading it a ton :/ but it's interesting, so there's that! I just feel like I've read way more than my page count shows xD
I should have a Sophie kinsella done today. That's a BR and it'll be 10 points:)
Sounds like an interesting but draining job, I could never do Nightshift :-) but I think both my boys are natural born night owls, they really should figure out something where that can be utilized, because generally you get paid more if you work at night....
@Evan Hey! This is a team chat for a challenge, but the group has a discussion thread specifically about Heartless! I believe there's a few currently reading it now :) you can search Heartless in the group search to find the thread. I'm on mobile otherwise I'd link it for you
@Evan A reading challenge. We get points based on the amount and length of books we read, and compete against other teams
@Meaghan. Evan already knows about the heartless thread. He has been on there already. I'm part of that BR and he has been making comments there.
