maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments STATUS UPDATE

We only need 11 more books! We are so close!

There are only 3 days left of the challenge (countdown here)

Only books read prior to this time can be used (but Sarah and I have another 36 hours from this point to update and finalize the spreadsheet)

Avamuc | 132 comments I have a long flight tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to finish All the Light We Cannot See. Unfortunatelly I had to work a lot this week and did not get to read as much as I wanted too :/

Eni | 169 comments Finished After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse.

I dont know where to fit this aside from card 3 - author Charlaine Harris. It's a index. The characters dont have any lines.

For bonus: Read a book where all the letters in Haux can be found in the title

An index? Is it complete text (paragraphs)? That the characters don't speak is no problem - we can always move books around and use if for a 3 (or one of the wild cards).

I couldn't quite figure it out from the preview feature on amazon. If it is just a few words per page and a lot of empty space per page, it might be categorized with the special cases like poetry, childrens lit etc and need a minimum of 25000 words to be used for Uno.

message 913: by Melindam (last edited Apr 29, 2017 06:35AM) (new)

Melindam | 4428 comments Finished Brenna Morgan and The Iron Key.
It could fit into several categories for the mini challenge:
- both "trees" and "flowers" are mentioned in the text (I will put the quotes in a separate post.)
- 1st book in a series
- or it could be used for the spell it out
K - Kathleen / place Killarney
E- char Etain
T- char Treasach
S- char Saoirse
C- place Coillearnach

For the regular challenge:
Card 1 - 1st book in a series
Card 2 - char Turlough
Card 6 - char Saoirse
Card 8 - char Etain, place Eire (characters keep referring to Ireland as that)
Card 9 - char Nuala

If you have a 7 red that would be awesome! I was gonna read one for that card, but I'm stuck at work most of the weekend.

If you don't want to do that one, no problem - then I'll make sure I finish mine before the deadline.

(Kazen is reading one for 7 blue)

Perfect! Thanks Eni, you're a life saver!

message 924: by Kazen (last edited Apr 29, 2017 09:01PM) (new)

Kazen I finally finished my color book, yea!

The Reader on the 6.27 by Jean-Paul Didierlaurent

I have also finished The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz and Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater , so hopefully that will get us one step closer to our goals. Reader does not count for the mini, the other two do. I see you already found a spot for Shiver (yea!) and I don't see anything for The Night Mark besides spell outs.

message 925: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments I've finished

Virals by Kathy Reichs

mini challenge: MC is younger than 15 (Tory is 14)

message 926: by maria helena (last edited Apr 30, 2017 02:15AM) (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments 3 more books needed! We are totally getting this done!

Eni is reading for 7 Red, and the other two cards are Wild 4 so any books fitting the minimum requirements for Uno works.

message 927: by Melindam (last edited Apr 30, 2017 04:04AM) (new)

Melindam | 4428 comments I have finished The Case of the Negligent Nymph by Erle Stanley Gardner with "char goes swimming". For regulars cards there are chars Dorothy Fenner, Della Street, Paul Drake, Perry Mason.

message 928: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4428 comments I may finish another short Mason The Case of the Stuttering Bishop . It might qualify for MC working in church (although he disappears at the beginning, is being desperately searched for and only emerges at the very end of the book again). If yes, the Sidney Chambers book also qualifies for "character is vegetarian" - with Sidney's daughter Anna becoming a vegetarian.

Progressive Dinner Deadly (Myrtle Clover Cozy Mysteries #2) by Elizabeth Spann Craig

I'm going to concentrate on reading rather than updating the spreadsheet now, in the hopes of finishing another book before the deadline.

message 932: by Sarah (last edited Apr 30, 2017 11:13AM) (new)

If you have another book for HAUX, that would be great because then we can finish that egg! (I haven't been able to find a word count for the other one, but I sadly think it was too short)

Eni | 169 comments Yeah I know. It deceived me :(
I may be able to read 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover.

message 936: by Melindam (last edited Apr 30, 2017 12:51PM) (new)

Melindam | 4428 comments Finished The Case of the Stuttering Bishop.
For wild card:
-author Erle Stanley Gardner, chars Stella Kenwood, Victor Stockton, Hamilton Burger

For mini
- maybe MC working in church?
- hat on cover
- spell it out: chars Julia Branner, Janice Seaton, Place Los Angeles

If it is used for hat on cover, there are alternative categories for Night Watch
-there is a fire (Vimes sets fire to a prison used by the "unmentionables")
- could be used for spell-it-out
- contains egg in text "I'd like a hard-boiled egg" page 344.
-contains flower "you wearing purple flowers, sarge" page26

message 937: by Rachyl (new)

Rachyl (norsulaulu) I just finished A Storm of Swords.
A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin

It should work for:
2 - character Tyrion
3 Green - 3rd in series with green cover
4 - character nickname Florian
5 - character Irri
6 - title Storm of Swords
7 - set in Valyria
8 - character Edmure Tully
9 - Ned Stark (dead at this point but still referenced frequently)
Skip - Maester Pycelle

For easter eggs:
Main character dies [spoilers] Tywin Lannister
Characters dance (Sansa's wedding)
Character goes swimming (Brienne of Tarth)
There is a fire (Hound vs Dondarrion fight)
Onion (onion knight)
Tree (weirwood tree)
Flower (knight of flowers)
over 500, 000 ratings
over 10, 000 reviews
On the "Best Books Ever" list (though I have no idea where because there are so many books but it says it on the book's page)

Hope it helps with something

We managed to finish all our uno cards this month too, and we also found a way of rearranging the easter hunt books so we completed 14 eggs!

Great job everyone! It has been a pleasure to be your captain and I had lot of fun playing with you. I hope I'll see you all around for future challenges :-)

Thanks for managing the challenge for our team, you did a great job!

Dear All,

Reading with you for the challenge has been great fun, I will definitely sign up again next year. :)

message 943: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments Thanks Melindam, but MH did the lion's share. She's a great captain. :)

Great job rearranging the Easter Hunt, MH. I was wondering if we had a U anywhere to finish LUCK, so funny that you found it in one of my books - it had completely passed me by. Lol!

It's been great playing with you all. I hope to see you in future challenges! Is everyone playing TTV?

And finally - if you don't follow it already, audiobooksync has started again, giving away two free audiobooks every week. I still have some from last year that I haven't listened to yet. They aren't all always available outside the US, but there's probably something for everyone.

Thanks to everyone's amazing effort, we managed to hold on to our spot and ended at place 14.

Once again, great job everyone!
