Hehehe. Can anyone beat her? ;)"
I've read 10 - and multiples on 3 of them as well (The Mysterious Affair at Styles, HP1, P&P).
MH is clearly the winner!
When we're past the deadline I'm going to start with a Kate character for part 3. I'm sure I can reread another Agatha Christie for part 1 and/or part 3.
I'm reading Flash and Bonescard 2 - character Temperance Brennan
card 4 - title F
skip - author Kathy Reichs
I can read the following Agatha Christie books for the mini challenge:
1) Death in the Clouds for character Hercule
2) Dead Man's Folly for character George
If needed, one of them could alternatively be used for part 1.

The mini challenge is a voluntary part of Uno, but it is worth so many points that all teams usually participate :)
Is there something special you find confusing? We will be happy to answer any questions. The mini challenge is different each month, so it is new for everyone!
Spirit-Soul-Body ( Lil Book Harpy ) wrote: "Hi Kazen , I think ty / zane ..is from riftwar series by Talon of the Silver Hawk The Complete Conclave of Shadows Trilogy: Talon of the Silver Hawk / King of Foxes / Exile's Return by Raymond E. Feist
or it should be tad & zane?"
I'm not sure where you got your information, but team Ty & Zane is named for the main characters in the Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban.
For the mini challenge part 3 (character name scavenger hunt), if we wanted to match e.g. Zane we could of course read a book from the Cut & Run series but we could just as well read another book where there is a character named Zane.
For part 3, it is only character first name that needs to match (with exact spelling)!
So another example: say that I want to match the name Harry (for team Ron Weasley), I could read Echo Park where the main character is Harry Bosch.
If you look at message 435, Kazen has made a list for us with our options for the different parts of the mini challenge with links to the authors for part 1, the specific books for part 2, and started a list of character names for part 3.We are doing the mini challenge as a team, so together we need 5 books for part 1 (not 5 per person). We could read the same author several times for part 1, but the same team member can only read one book per author for that task.
So for example, for part 1:
- Kazen could read a book by Patricia Briggs
- MH could read a book by Agatha Christie
- Sarah could also read a book by Agatha Christie
- Lil Book Harpy could read a book by Neil Gaiman and a book by Jojo Moyes
--> We would have part 1 covered
Spirit-Soul-Body ( Lil Book Harpy ) wrote: "did i misunderstood something? pls correct if"I'm honestly not sure... What you have listed under each part is correct. You don't have to do all of them - we will divide and conquer the tasks together :-)
If you let us know which books you plan to read, we will make sure they are used in the best way (depending on which books the rest of the team are reading).
Spirit-Soul-Body ( Lil Book Harpy ) wrote: "yes , i have seen that... i didn't read Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban but read riftwar series found ty and zane both characters there..so, I asked."Depending on when you read the riftwar series, if you wanted to you could reread one of those books for part 3 (to match the character name Ty or Zane).
Spirit-Soul-Body ( Lil Book Harpy ) wrote: "Hey MH,I found one to-read list for ..Rachel Watson - Paula Hawkins

That is a good book and would work perfectly for the mini challenge!
Spirit-Soul-Body ( Lil Book Harpy ) wrote: "plus I haven't read single book from Harry potter series..not going to if have options.Couse my preference joe Abercrombie (the first law series – 3 read 3 more to go..), Terry goodwin’s sword of truth (partial) and pending full series of Robert Jordan – Wheel of time.. I spent lot time collecting that."
Don't worry, no-one will be forced to read a book they don't want to read! There is usually a lot of options with what books to read, and even if you don't like a specific author or series, there might be someone else on the team that want to read that one.
One of the fun things about these team challenges is that you get to play together with people that have other reading preferences that you, and sometimes you find new books/authors to read that you might not have found on your own.

by Paula Hawkins

UPDATEMINI CHALLENGE
We already have 4 books for the mini challenge finished!
Part 2: Team book - The Girl on the Train
Part 3: Character Names - Kate, George, Hercule
UNO HANDS
For the regular Uno cards, we need 48 more books. I'm sure we can get it done!
I'm taking the mini challenge as my cue to finally read Wuthering Heights - and leaving myself with plenty of month left to fit it in, as I'm always slower with classics.Works for part 1 or part 3 of the mini
For Uno
0 - standalone
3 - C: Heathcliff
8 - A: Emily Brontë
There may well be more characters that I have yet to discover, but I'm only on chapter 2 so far.

Classics are always slower reads for me too.
uno pixie told me that books I read or will read in March will count. Please let me know, how I could help to complete your March challenge
Melindam, welcome! We have people in many different time zones so expect greetings to trickle in over the next day or so. Our noble captain should be around before too long to explain anything that needs to be done. :)Great to have you!
Hi Melindam and welcome to the team! I just sent you a PM with all the random information to get you started :-)
We are doing great on our regular Uno cards--there is nothing special we are in dire need of--so the most useful thing would probably be for you to find a book you want to read that can be used for the mini challenge. If you go back to message 435, Kazen made us a list of the books/authors the mini challenge is built around.
We need:
Part 1 - Books written by any of the authors behind the team names
Part 3 - Books with character names that match any character names from the team books (team books are listed/linked under part 2)
We already have a book finished for part 2, but if you want to read any books from this part, they all work for part 1 and part 3 so they are a great selection to pick from :-)
For part 4 (scrabble), the books don't have to be part of the team books/authors. We just need to read books to spell out words built from a specific set of letters. Part 1 to 3 are worth the most points, so we are focusing on finishing that part first. If we get to the scrabble part, that will be a great bonus! :-)
Let us know if anything is unclear. And once again, welcome to the team!
Kazen wrote: "Melindam, welcome! We have people in many different time zones so expect greetings to trickle in over the next day or so. Our noble captain should be around before too long to explain anything that..."Thank you for the kind welcome. :) Hope I can contribute to the team effort.

Thanks MH! I have saved the books I already finished (4) or will soon finish (1) in March to my "uno-2017" shelf. I probably need help from you to figure out, if they can be included in the challenge.

If I read Persuasion by Jane Austen, which also has the name Elizabeth, would that help the mini challenge? Or I am open to suggestions. I could read a Neil Gaiman or an Ilona Andrews book as well (both on my to-read list). Does JK Rowling as Robert Gailbraith count or not?
As
is quiet a fast read (a screen play just does not take as long as a book with 300 pages....) I can probably read the
and
until the end of the month. Both should work for the mini challenge :)

Persuasion by Jane Austen would be perfect for the mini challenge. It could be used either for part 1 (author), or part 3 (character name).
Any book by Neil Gaiman or Ilona Andrews would also work for part 1 (and possible for part 3 depending on which book).
JK Rowling as Robert Gailbraith is ok!
I'd say start with the book you want to read the most :-)

Dear Team Weasley! Please bear with me, as I will be slow on the uptake with the rules. So in March I already finished:
-Empire of Storms, which is book #5 in the Throne of Glass series & author's first name starts with "S". Can this be counted for any of the cards?
- Whose Body?, book #1 of the Lord Peter Whimsey series. Author's last name starts with "S"
-The Case of the Lucky Loser, author's first name starts with "E". Character's (Della Street) last name starts with "S". Character's name (Florence Ingle) has both F & I. Characters (Mortimer Dean Howard / Hamilton Burger) have letter H.
- Barchester Towers. Book #2 of the Chronicles of Barsetshire. Character's names Obadiah Slope, Eleanor Bold, Ethelbert Stanhope, Madeline Neroni.

& I think I will be able to finish Burn for Me by I. Andrews.
Hi Melindam! Slightly belated as I've not been on GR all day, but welcome to the team! It's great to have you.
I've finished:
mini challenge:
part 1 author Agatha Christie
(Character names Michael, Greta, Claudia, Esther - not sure if they work for part 3)
uno cards:
card 0 - stand alone
card 4 - character Fenella
card 8 - title E
skip - place Kingston Bishop
mini challenge:
part 1 - author Agatha Christie
part 3 - character name Susan = Susan Rodriguez (team Harry Dresden)
uno cards:
card 2 - character Timothy
card 3 - character Hercule Poirot
card 6 - character Susan
skip - character Hercule Poirot
I also finally finished Flash and Bones. I started it before the mini challenge, but it can be used for:
card 2 - character Temperance Brennan
card 4 - title F
skip - author Kathy Reichs
I think I've run out of Agatha Christie novels to read for now :-) (But I'm going to the library tomorrow so who knows what I'll find there...)
Sarah wrote: "Hi Melindam! Slightly belated as I've not been on GR all day, but welcome to the team! It's great to have you."Thank you Sarah! :)
We're a little over half-way through the month and we only need 39 more books to finish all our Uno hands! With Lil Book Harpy and Melindam joining the team we are also back to a full team after losing Drishti, Fatimah and Emily.
Here's how we are doing with the different cards:
Colour cards:
- Eni is working on 4 Green
- Sarah is working on 5 Yellow
- We still need 9 Red
Regular Uno cards:
- The one we have the fewest options for is card 7 (letter V)
- We have finished all the reverse
Mini challenge:
- We have already finished 7 out of the 16 books needed for part 1-3!
- We have about 4-6 more that would work for part 1 or 3 that are currently being read/planned to be read.
Great job everyone!
Dear All,I just finished "The Invisible Library" by Genevieve Cogman.
- Book #1 in the series
- Characters: Peregrine Vale, Mrs Jenkins, Olga Retrogarde, Inspector Singh, Kai, Lord Silver
maria helena wrote: "We're a little over half-way through the month and we only need 39 more books to finish all our Uno hands! With Lil Book Harpy and Melindam joining the team we are also back to a full team after ..."
What kind of book would we need for "9 red"?
And I have "Peregrine Vale" in The invisible library for "V" if it can be counted in.
Melindam wrote: "What kind of book would we need for "9 red"?That is a special colour card - we had 8 to do this month (but we had done most of them before you joined the team). For 9 red, we need a book that works both for card 9 and where the cover of the edition read is minimum 50% red.
"And I have "Peregrine Vale" in The invisible library for "V" if it can be counted in."
Perfect!
Please check if this cover is red enough: The Case of the Mythical Monkeys. It has a character called Niles Meade.
Or what about Red Rising? I am not sure if it qualifies as 50% red, but if it does, it has a character called Nero au Augustus.
