The main thing I remember is it is about a teenage girl who is caught up in an attack in an airport where there are people who are shooting everyone, She pretends to be dead so well that she is transported into another dimension/afterlife/underworld place. After this she learns how to go back to this place and she meets a guy who is from there or knows about it. And something (or someone) is after her and can sense when she goes into the other place.

I read this book around 2013 - 14 I think, not sure when it would have been published.

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld seems to fit... although the terrorist attack/afterlife plot is more of a story-within-a-story!
