That's definitely scarily similar, but very interesting nevertheless! I seem to remember Penny talked of Quints who she based part of the story on, I wonder if this was those?

I believe that was close to my favorite book. These quints were world famous...I'm 72 and my mother talked about them like we were family.

May I ask you which was your favourite then, Kate? I'd definitely say this one, especially because I just managed to get it at a library sale for 50p. (Sadly, I didn't previously own any Penny books but now I've got my favourite for a bargain!)
I don't know much of the Quints, or any family like them , really. Perhaps why I found the book and article so interesting.

I suppose my long time favorite was The Brutal Telling...reading was wonderful, but afterwards, hearing Ralph Cosham read it was mesmerizing. And later The Nature of the Beast about Laurent became tbe favorite. I don't think after reading and listening I'll ever be able to read it again.

Just finished How The Light Gets In. Loved the storylines and the ending. One of my favorites, too.

i also grew up when the quints were born. I liked the twist this story brought to a phenomenon that was followed by everyone of my friends

It's the first time I'd heard of anything like the Quints so I did find it tricky to start, just trying to figure out how they could be *so* well known. It all became clear after a touch of reading.

Wow!! I’m a bit late to the party but was thrilled to read that link about the “real” quints. Thanks for sharing that...I’ve only recently discovered Louise Penny and just finished listening to this one (Ralph Cosham is a fantastic narrator). Riveting.

I love how Penny intertwines interesting fact with a touch of fiction. I read a wonderful story, whilst feeling like I'm learning something.

New to the group! Just finished this book and it is my favorite so far! There were times I almost cried. I love the relationship between Ruth and Beauvoir and how the townspeople came together to support and protect Gamache etc.

Yes! The other aspect that I love is how she weaves in the work of other authors, artists, poets and philosophers. She helps me expand my reading list but I'll always come home to Three Pines.
