Today and tomorrow, my humorous ghostly tale of Old Twelfth Night - 'Old Crotchet' - set in early 1920s Somerset and inspired by a rather singular looking pair of figures that I happened upon at Lytes Cary Manor, is available for free Kindle download. Its tone is perhaps pitched midway between that of ‘Blithe Spirit’ and a traditional ghost story of the sort written by E.F. Benson or A.M. Burrage, with a Roald Dahl style twist, so not something that readily fits into Amazon’s rather crude categories. It has garnered a handful of reviews in the UK thus far – all favourable, thankfully – but I am looking for a few more, so if you, or anyone you know, might enjoy this sort of short story (it is technically a novelette – a piece of approximately 11,200 words in length), please feel free to alert them to its availability. Reviews and ratings on Amazon and Goodreads would be welcome.

Brief synopsis of ‘Old Crotchet’:
Martin Parsons lets out a shriek as he collapses onto his haunches in Mathew Sweet’s orchard, his broad hands spread by way of protection over his forward-inclined head. It is Twelfth Night by the old reckoning, and festivities are about to commence as something sinister stirs from its protracted dormancy, awakened, it seems, by the arrival of two young guests; the old ways, they find, should not be treated lightly.
