SOLVED. Book from the 90s about a preteen girl befriending an orphaned witch her age and the girl's family eventually adopts her. [s]

I have spent hours looking through my google and amazon history from 2010-2012 (when I read the book) and I cannot for the life of me find it. I can't even find the hard copy I used to have! The amazon links were moved/deleted and google gave me everything but the actual book.


Basically the title, it was a series book (at least 4, definitely more) and I still can't remember the name! Ugh. Okay so like the title says there's this girl (I think late preteens to early teens, like 11-13) who befriends another girl the same age that turns out to be a witch (the good kind). The witch is orphaned and uses her magic to get by. I think at the end of the first or second book in the series the girl's family adopts the witch but only the girl knows she is a witch. Later on in the series girl's other friends find out and they all become friends. I totally forgot the title and author but I really loved the book back when I was in 8th grade (about 5 years ago), I wish I could remember the rest of the details.
