Spades | 17 comments Please combine Out of Action with Out Of Action as they are different editions of the same book.

Similarly Three Sips of Gin should be combined with Three Sips of Gin - Memoirs of an African Adventure.

Dingo Firestorm should be combined with Dingo Firestorm: The Greatest Battle of the Rhodesian Bush War.

Thank you!

Abcdarian | 26579 comments First and third done by someone. I requested an author profile merge for the second one, and there are some odd looking editions, but I think the other librarian may be looking at them.

message 4: by Spades (new)

Spades | 17 comments It looks like a couple of the editions by Koos Stadler need to be combined/re-organized as well.

It should be clear, but for reference, Recce: Kleinspan-operasies agter vyandelike linies and Recce: Small Team Missions Behind Enemy Lines are the same books, but in Afrikaans and English respectively. I'm not sure how books published in different languages get sorted here.

Yes, I left it uncombined because of that.

Spades | 17 comments Please combine editions of Four Ball, One Tracer: Commanding Executive Outcomes in Angola and Sierra Leone and Four Ball One Tracer: Commanding Executive Outcomes in Angola and Sierra Leone.

Also 32 Battalion and 32 Battalion: The Inside Story of South Africa's Elite Fighting Unit should be combined. Not sure about the other books by this author.

Gloria Winston also has editions which should be combined.

The author page John Hanks could be to be divided into at least three different John Hanks (zoologist, narrator, doctor, ???). I'm afraid I can't lend even middle initials to these gentlemen to help clear this up.

Books by Arn Durand need to be merged into various editions. Also I can't find an actual copy of the book titled "Zulu Zulu Golf: Two Years With Koevoet," I thought perhaps it was a UK printing of "Zulu Zulu Golf: Life and Death with Koevoet" with a different title, but it doesn't seem to be. A merger should be considered.

Finally, there's a bit of a weird edition/title thing going on with Koevoet: Experiencing South Africa's Deadly Bush War which can be merged with the other two editions by the author (their titles will need fixing/removal of the exclamation mark).

Kindra Austin (kindramaustin) | 4 comments I'm having trouble combining my paperback and ebook editions.
Magpie in August ISBN-13: 978-1521071366 and ASIN: B06Y1YWK67. The ebook is mislabeled paperback.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

and

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

I was trying to resolve the issue myself, and long story short, I have three editions, rather than two. One of the editions, which is redundant,
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
is incorrectly labeled kindle edition. Assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments #19 uuuh what the hell did you do? you moved around asin and isb in a really weird way ...
(that's something really NOT allowed per GR rules)
you moved the isbn of the pb in the asin field - which is totally incorrect and you removed the correct (amazon imported) asin from there and changed the format from correct kindle to incorrect PB ...

what was your reason to add a kindle edition with that incorrectly moved asin after the removal again?
Why didn't you leave the asin on it's place?
What did you want to change by doing that?

message 22: by Abcdarian (last edited May 04, 2017 04:51PM) (new)

Abcdarian | 26579 comments #19: The ISBN 10 from your paperback edition had been added as an ASIN to the extra edition; merged that one. There are two correct editions: a paperback and a kindle.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments #19 #22 while I tried to revert your changes @abcdarian merged it ... well undid my the asin removal by me in the edition you created after your movings of asins and isbn - I would have merged this one and kept the one which was originally imported.
For the future: DO NOT move ASIN or ISBN from one edition to another under any circumstances Kindra.

Alex | 216 comments Here's a weird case:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Same book. It's book two of this series: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1798...

There's a book there listed as book 2 which appears to be the original title of the book:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

message 25: by Alex (new)

Alex | 216 comments Book 1 of that series has an issue too, an incorrect title:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

This should be (as per the cover) titled "Conjuror" not "Conjurer". All of the other editions are correctly titled.

To be honest, I didn't know I had done anything against the rules. I wanted my paperback to be primary, so I tried editing my information. Then I realized I could combine paperback and ebook...I made a mess of it, and I apologize. Thank you so much for your help.

David Raz (davidraz) | 12737 comments #24 Seems like the book was renamed prior to the release. This means the ISBN can be moved to the new cover/name. I sent the author an inquiry but for now we will keep the older cover/name as possible ARC.

Spades | 17 comments The author Ron Selley has two pairs of books which each need to be combined if someone would be kind enough to do so. Thank you!

Also I'm not convinced that the author of The Death of a Wombat is the same Ivan Smith who wrote other books under that author's listing. It could require a bit of investigating if someone has a moment.

Spades | 17 comments Please combine these editions: Field Guide to Mammals of Southern Africa (Field Guide To... and Field Guide to Mammals of Southern Africa (Field Guide To... as well as Stuarts' Field Guide to Mammals of Southern Africa, with the latter being the latest revision to the volume.

Additionally, there are a number of duplicate entries for books by Chris Stuart, particularly Stuarts' Field Guide to Mammals of Southern Africa: Including Angola, Zambia & Malawi / Stuarts Se Veldgids Tot Soogdiere Van Suider-Afrika: Insluitend Angola, Zambie & Malawi. As these are the same titles in English and Afrikaans, I suspect they could be combined. I can't vouch for their existence, however, but the version Stuarts se Veldgids tot Soogdiere van Suider-Afrika: Insluitend Angola, Zambië & Malawi seems to be the most complete and probably was a South Africa-only print.

Thank you!

message 35: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31397 comments #34 done. Lots of combining.

message 36: by Spades (new)

Spades | 17 comments Thanks very much for all the previous combining jobs! Not sure if I should dump all these here or post some of them to another thread. Please advise.

Andrew T. Smith has some editions/duplicates under his name that could be combined.

Sam Woods looks to aggregate the works of two different people. One Sam Woods is a naturalist, the other seems to be a self-help writer.

Similar situation for Susan Myers. Nature books vs religious books. Also a kid's book thrown in there.

And finally a tedious author-split: Jamie Anderson. I wish I could provide some background on this, but surely there must be at least 3 distinct authors here.

Author Iain Banks publishes fiction under that name and sci-fi under the name Iain M. Banks. Not sure how this is handled on GoodReads, but the next example is similar:

Husband and wife Chris Stuart and Tilde Stuart have co-authored a number of books. However Tilde Stuart also publishes under the name Mathilde Stuart in some books (and subsequently has some editions attributed to her this way when there are already editions attributed to Tilde Stuart). I can see that in a number of their print books for the North American market that she is published under both names. The best way to see these books is to view Chris Stuart's page.

The two profiles are deliberately kept separate.

As for books published under more than one version of an author's name, please see https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/4...

Alanhk | 83 comments Please combine:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
with
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

The latter is the more complete entry. First is a recent reprint.

message 39: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31397 comments #38 combined, however, I think the first is a 1962 paperback, not a new release. That publisher issued 2 editions in 1962. The cover is just a generic one that Amazon uses on occasion.

OK. I thought the generic cover meant it was a cheap digital reprint.
Anyway, I see now there is already a full entry for the 1962 paperback:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

The no-cover entry https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... should just be deleted; it's the same edition.

The information is now identical:
"Mass Market Paperback, 284 pages
Published 1962 by Macfadden-Bartell (first published 1948) "
The blank cover is the only difference now.
Worldcat has one "edition" described as "biography", one not, otherwise identical data. Looks like they double counted too.

Spades | 17 comments Please combine these editions:

Weep for Africa: A Rhodesian Light Infantry Paratrooper's Farewell to Innocence and Weep for Africa: A Rhodesian Light Infantry Paratrooper's Farewell to Innocence

These editions of "the fall of dynasties the collapse of the old order" could be merged.

There are multiple editions of Counter-Strike from the Sky: The Rhodesian All-Arms Fireforce in the War in the Bush, 1974-1980, Counter-Strike from the Sky: The Rhodesian All-Arms Fireforce in the War in the Bush 1974-1980, and a final edition with "Dr" added to the author's name: Counter-Strike From the Sky: The Rhodesian All-Arms Fireforce in the War in the Bush 1974–1980

Perhaps Scouting on Two Continents should be combined with Scouting on Two Continents and Scouting on Two Continents?

There are several different books with names along the lines of "Okinawa The Last Battle" which have multiple editions worth combining, for the sake of our sanity I won't list them all here.

And I'm not sure if The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women and The Radium Girls Excerpt should also be combined (the "excerpt" may have a full edition listed with it, which perhaps belongs with the unabridged version).

Hidden Wounds: A Soldier's Burden and Hidden Wounds: A Soldier's Burden could be combined, although the authors attributed are flipped.

As well, Fireforce, Fireforce: One Man's War in the Rhodesian Light Infantry, and Fireforce: One Man's War In The Rhodesian Light Infantry are all the same book, with the author's name attributed slightly differently (middle initials).

Thank you for your time and efforts!

message 45: by Z-squared (new)

Z-squared | 8576 comments re 44, all done except for Radium Girls. Excerpts aren't combined with full-length editions. Nor does the excerpt edition you linked to have a full-length edition combined with it. All editions of that book are correctly grouped.

In future, please do include links to all works you want combined. I went searching for Okinawa titles, and I think I got them all, but I may have missed some.
