kavi ~he-him~ (spideykavi) | 10 comments *hugs* life and school is evil :( Me and my friend were ranting a little bit about school and homework earlier. Like we have 7 or 8 hours of school, 5 days a week. And then we have homework which gives us more hours. -_-

message 4: by kavi ~he-him~ (new)

kavi ~he-him~ (spideykavi) | 10 comments Like we've all got other things going in our life outside of school as well, and I need to find some time for my reading

NerdyJediGymnast | 191 comments Being homeschooled is the only way I have reading time......

message 6: by kavi ~he-him~ (new)

kavi ~he-him~ (spideykavi) | 10 comments I can always try to bring my books to school I always have a book with me at school. And I can find some time after school or before I go to sleep I usually have some time for my reading before I go to sleep because reading helps me sleep but lately I'd been getting really tired like really tired so that I just want to sleep, even tho I've slept well the night before. But still....

IKR!!

*group hugs*

Agreed :)

Like it's been a few months and I'm still in the middle of the hammer of Thor like I'm not even close to finishing it :( and I have so many books that I'd been planning to finish next. Tho luckily this is my last year in school but then there is college. Hopefully I'll find more time there

A mouthful of books (zeinab_othman) | 3 comments I really understand the struggle! With all the studying and exam thing it is really hard to find time for reading. Like seriously sometimes I just wish I can sit at home and read all day. What I usually do though is tell myself that I should finish all the work asap and then I will have more time to read before I sleep but of course this doesnt always work because there will be many occasions where life enjoys throwing obstacles at us.But yeah, mainly i try to squeeze some time for reading in school days whenever I can and get the rest done in the weekend!

message 9: by kavi ~he-him~ (new)

kavi ~he-him~ (spideykavi) | 10 comments Like it so sad.....I used to be such a fast reader well most of the times, sometimes I'm a fast reader and sometimes I'm not, depends on my mood. But like I used to read books in a week or less then a week or 4 days or 2 days I read all of the Harry Potter books in a weekend well not the whole series in one weekend but you get what I mean. It sucks :( my mom used to take me to the library to get a haul of books and each time I go to the library I get 10 or 8 books each time but now we don't go to the library as much as we used to....I miss doing that.....the only time I go to the library is to get a book that's on hold or return a book......and reading is like my escape from reality it distracts me from my problems and it's been there so many times, even in my darkest times, but now there's not enough time to read all those books :( and it makes me sad because I grew up with reading :(

message 10: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 184 comments I used to reward myself for finishing assignments or chapters that needed to be read with a chapter or couple of pages of my book. I also love to take baths so I can read while I soak for a while. My Kindle App is my go to for waiting in a line or even a 3 minute break at work. Of course I read before I go to bed but there are some nights where you just have to close your eyes. Basically I sneak in reading whenever I can. I also listen to audiobooks while I drive.

message 11: by Cordelianne (new)

Cordelianne I always read 30 to 60 minutes before sleeping, because it helps me to get calmer and sleep better. Moreover in the Netherlands we have final weeks 4 times a year, so after finals the first 2 weeks are always very relaxed, because teachers are correcting the tests, so that are always the weeks I read the most and of course in vacations!

message 12: by Turah (new)

Turah | 19 comments I understand school and life being in the way. The way I find time is during meals(which probably not a good idea), rewarding my self for finishing something in school, and reading before bed.

This Kooky Wildflower Loves a Little Tea and Books (alittleteaandbooks) I carry a book with me in my tote bag, or I make sure my phone's packed with some. Also, I give myself a sixty-page daily reading goal. With this goal, I can either use an entire hour completing the goal (one minute per page), break the goal up into twenty minute increments, or read thirty pages during the day and thirty in the evening.

I know, having so many books and never having time to read them is sad. :(

Angela Auten | 128 comments I normally read before and after work. So work interrupts my reading time.

message 16: by Natalie (last edited Jan 13, 2017 10:14AM) (new)

Natalie Grace | 21 comments While I wish I had the time to be all cozy on the couch and read a book, I just don't. So I listen to audiobooks a lot. That way I am able to fit my "reading" in my busy schedule. I'll listen while I'm driving, or cleaning or going for a run, etc.

message 17: by lacy (new)

lacy white (ravensandlace) I am lucky enough to work third shift at my job. And I am also lucky enough that third shift on my job is super easy. I just have to make sure no one dies which is incredibly easy. (I work with adults with varying degrees of intellectual and physical disabilities). Nights are super crazy easy so I can read a book every other day depending on length and how into it I am.

message 18: by Cyn (new)

Cyn (lostinstoryville) | 47 comments I am lucky for never having any homework. We always make our assignments in class, so I have free time everyday I come home, except for days that I have to work in the evening (and sometimes a Saturday).

When I have finals week, like I have right now, I have like one or two tests a day and then I am free. School goes first in my opinion but I can't study for 6 hours straight, so I give myself free time in between in which I sometimes read, depending on the subject I was studying for.

message 19: by Fran (new)

Fran (franspages) | 2 comments !!!! i always always try to save half an hour right before i go to bed for reading. that way i dont have to try and squeeze reading into my schedule if im super duper busy! I just get ready for bed every night & once im super cozy i sit down & read!
Also!!! i try to read on my commutes to and from school!

message 20: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 20, 2017 03:39AM) (new)

I always try to find little spots of time to read. For example in the car when we are going to visit someone. Or when I am in the train/bus. Or when I have a break at work. I also try to read right before I go to bed but sometimes my eyes are way too tired.

message 21: by Alethea (new)

Alethea (greaterthanblue) | 43 comments You just gotta put reading into your routine somehow :) Like me, I always read on the way to school in the morning. It's only about a 15 mins ride, but I always read, so when I don't it just feels so wrong. So if I don't have time to read the entire day, I know I'll always have that 15 mins in the morning :)

message 22: by Valen (new)

Valen Silva (itsvalen) | 1 comments It's summer here in Argentina so I'm not struggling with exams, homework, etc but during the school-year I can barely read. In fact, I read the most during the summer and winter break.
I try to read whenever I have a free minute. Sometimes, right before bed or on my way to school. Either way, I'm starting university this year so wish me luck.
(Hope my idea is quite clear, English isn't my native tongue)

I completely understand your pain. And that thing you mentioned about your reading pace slowing down? Yeah that happened to me too. It's just so depressing sometimes.
I have so many books on my TBR pile, and I've bought a lot of books but so many of them just sit on my shelf, collecting dust. I just want to read, but mundane things like school and exams keep getting in the way. I know we're supposed to give priority to school but AGH it's so frustrating!
I'm in the 12th grade and my finals are just around the corner and they last for almost a month and I don't know how I'll manage without books for so long. :(
As for your question, you could try what everyone before me has said. If you're too tired , put an audiobook and fall asleep to that. My phone has a "sleep timer" for music, so I put the audio book on and set the timer for 10-ish minutes. I know it's not much but unfortunately , the schooling system seems to want us to concentrate on academics and academics alone.
Sorry If I wasn't of much help :/ Hang in there <3

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I understand you. The best way to do it is trying to get all your school work done so you can give sme time to read a little everyday. That's what I do.

message 25: by Deejay (DZ) (new)

Deejay (DZ) (deejayreads) | 17 comments I usually read after school at around 5pm , that when I usually finish, and I stay up until 1 am reading. That must be why I'm always tired ahah !

message 26: by Lorryn (new)

Lorryn I work a desk job with lots of down time so I read there a lot. If I'm at home I usually don't read unless the kids are in bed or if they're gone. I only get reading done with them up and home if it's a book they want to hear.

Terris Chloe wrote: "I read ALL the time. I read on my way to work on the metro, on my lunch break, while making dinner, when waiting for anything at all, before I go to sleep, even while watching something at the same..."

That's exactly what I do, Chloe! I just always have a book around, even if I can only read a paragraph. Any little scrap of time is enough for me to read!

message 28: by Asounani (new)

Asounani I'm reading most of the time for example in the Bus, on my lunch break, before I go to sleep, "watching T.V." The only time that I don't read is when am play video games

message 29: by Atlas (new)

Atlas (atlasrising) I pretty much take my Kindle everywhere, particularly with me into uni so I can squeeze in ten minutes around lectures. I walk everywhere so no reading on transport, so I make time in the mornings and evenings, mostly.

I read whilst eating and don't watch too much TV (though I do play video games) so a lot of my spare time is spent reading :)

Brittany Walker (brittanywalker) | 37 comments I actually get a lot of reading done at work or while I'm riding somewhere.

message 32: by kippen (new)

kippen (uponthepages) (uponthepages) | 0 comments I haven't been reading as much lately but whenever I do read a lot, this is how I do it:

1. Audiobooks. I usually audiobook something each month so whenever i'm driving, showering, going to bed, or just scrolling through tumblr, i'll listen to it!
2. I always keep a book with me. If I don't have a book on me, I'll have an ebook on my phone. This way I'm able to read at school during lunch or whenever class ends early. I usually read the most in the evening, though. I get homework and studying done and I go ahead and read.
3. I set myself a minor goal. I like to read 4-5 books a month on average so I'll have this semi tbr and I use it as motivation to even find the time to read.
5. It always helps to take a breather and read something short but interesting. Anything like comics, manga, poetry books, short stories usually keep me out of reading slumps and adds onto to my Goodreads goal so I don't feel far behind! :-)

message 33: by Demy (new)

Demy (dxmy) I commute to college and my internship, both about an hour away from my house. So I normally do a lot of my reading during these travels. I've got an ereader, so it's not that much of a hassle to take a book with me.
When at home, I've been trying to cut back on the time I spend online and the time I spend watching tv. This also helps me a lot :)

message 34: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (beckykrak) | 1 comments I'm in college at the moment but I use the time in between my lectures to read. I also like to take 5-10 min breaks in between my study sessions and sometimes I will read then in order to give my mind a break from studying!

message 36: by Terri (new)

Terri I never watch TV unless it's a special show like "The Academy Awards" and when I do my fast walking exercise, I listen to books. Long driving trips, I listen to books on CD and waiting in line or Doctor's office, I read. It all adds up, the minutes lead to hours.

message 37: by Mary (new)

Mary | 10 comments I've resolved to just accepting the fact that when school rolls around there isn't going to be much reading. I'm a bio major too, so that really doesn't help. However, Spring Break, Winter Break, and the summer are perfect on getting some time for books.

If you aren't too stressed about your grades or finish studying early on some days, prop open a book. You could also try and use an audio book on the way to school.

message 38: by ~Bellegirl91~ (new)

~Bellegirl91~ (bellegirl91) I make time haha. If I knew I had t read at all during the day, I try to read at least 1 chapter and if I'm lucky 2-3. :)

message 39: by Jason (new)

Jason | 229 comments I try to read a bit before bed every evening (sometimes the book becomes a bit too good and I read longer than intended). I usually keep a book on me, so if I don't feel sociable during my lunch break out comes the book, or a longer than expected wait for a haircut etc. same thing.

message 40: by C. (new)

C. (tennisbraceletbunny) I read a book usually when I'm going from one destination to another during the weekdays. Like on school days I typically read on the bus ride to and from school. Then on the weekends for some reason I like to read as soon a I wake up - I don't even bother to turn on the lights or put on my glasses, I just fumble around for my book and read until I feel motivated enough to get up from bed.

message 41: by RKanimalkingdom (new)

RKanimalkingdom I have a very long commute to uni. I usually try to get some reading done during those times.
But it's really sad.
I used to read so much. Now I'm barely finishing a book a week. Plus, any time I spend reading I feel incredibly guilty. Like I could be doing additional studies but I'm choosing not to.
Does anyone else feel like this? Especially if they are in a program that demands a lot from them?

message 42: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (cathjb) | 18 comments I read early mornings and weekends

message 43: by Eva (new)

Eva Kouvari (eva_kvr) | 4 comments I usually read before I go to sleep (which makes me pull some all-nighters). I also read during my free periods at school. During summer, Christmas and Easter I read whenever I can find free time.

message 44: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Broyles I'm a firm believer in audiobooks. I drive about 45 minutes to and from work, so I can get though about an hour and a half a day on an audiobook. I also listen while playing video games, housework or sometimes, if the work is sort of repetitive, at work. Actual sitting down and reading a physical or e-book almost never happens. I always have one by my bed, but I usually doze off and my brain makes up new chapters while I'm asleep. Then when I wake up and start reading the actual book again, it doesn't make sense. Sometimes my chapters are better than the real ones, sometimes...

message 45: by Superbambi (new)

Superbambi | 285 comments I feel like high school is the time where people have the most time to read in their lives (before retirement, that is), but often you only realise it after the fact.

At uni there's school that's stressful, and you have to juggle it with a part time job and a social life, if you have the chance to have higher education.

When you reach the work force, as an adult, you have to juggle EVERYTHING. All the responsibilities, and you try to have hobbies, but sometimes you run out of time, or you're just too damn tired to read. I'm "lucky" enough to have issues to deal with that prevent me from living on my own and leading a household, so aside from work and helping around, I've still got some time to read, whether it's during my lunch break, in public transit, or between Bollywood movies on Netflix. So I have plenty of time to devote to reading, and I consider myself lucky for it (not so much for the issues that cause all this spare time lol).
