SOLVED. YA book about sisters in Asia pretending to be boys in order to escape their uncle who killed their family. [s]

I read this book between 2008 and 2013 (I could be wrong because I am guessing). I don't remember the name of the book or the author. I'm also not sure what the exact genre would be. The book is about two sisters and their father has high status so they have a really big house. The older sister is really interested in weapons. Their uncle also has higher status but he tries to kill the family. I remember that the father is killed but I can't remember if the mom is too. The two sisters escape and end up going to an academy where they pretend to be boys. The academy is for learning martial arts I believe, and the master of the school is a friend of the sisters' family. The sisters befriend one boy at the school and there is another boy that is a jerk.

I remember one part in the book has the older sister working on her kicks and is eventually able to knock down a tree.

I know this is a series and I read the first two books. The only thing I really remember about the second one is that there were ninjas that took the boy they befriended in the first one.

I also remembered that it is not in present day. It takes places in Asia during the time of samurai.
