Is Casting Dead?

Deciding which actors we would cast cast as the characters in the novels has been a staple of both the hangout and forums since early on. It seems to have fallen out of favor in recent months, to the point where Felicia remarked that they wouldn't be doing any casting for The Flame and the Arrow "…because nobody cared." Indeed, there hasn't been a dedicated thread for months. Has casting run its course, or should we try to bring it back?

I've definitely missed seeing everyone's casting lists and think it's fun to see some of the crazy choices that often pop up

I haven't started January's picks yet, otherwise I would start a thread :)

I really enjoy the casting. I've been sad to see that there's been a lot less of it lately, and would love to see it come back!

That being said, I'm not in the loop with current actors, so tend to cast the same-old in my mind. But I love casting all the same!

I'd miss it if it were gone, and I've sometimes mentioned casting in the regular discussion thread if no separate thread was created.

I don't care about casting, and think it should be up to the ladies on whether they want to do it.

I don't really care about casting, but I'm not against it either. If the Ladies would like to continue with it, I don't mind.

For me casting has been rather hollow because, for 99% of the people they mention, I have no idea who they are and how they look like. If they could prepare an image to show of their casting ideas, that would make the casting more interesting and engaging. At least to me.

I think cast should just be inserted into the discussion tread. It keeps everything in one convenient place.

The problem with that is it makes it hard to reference for later when they talk about casting on the hangout. Also, those who don't care about casting can't skip it.

I think it's fun still but I have to think hard about it. Though there are times when someone just jumps out at me to be cast. If the majority of people dislike it or don't care I'd hate to keep it if that's just not what the group likes just because it's been a staple.

Personally I'm not a fan of casting, I never know the majority of actors being mentioned and I don't feel it adds anything for me personally- if anything it's a bit distracting

While I don't hate casting, I have to agree with Kate that the same actors and actresses tend to come up a lot. And truthfully, sometimes a known actor/actress doesn't fit the image in my head and it throws me off to see or hear someone say they see such and such actor as the character.

IMO maybe have the thread so people who want to do casting can do it but maybe leave it out of the videos?

I think the casting thread is fun, more so when people post a picture of who they're talking about. I don't always assign an actor to a character, but sometimes when an actor just seems super appropriate, I like to be able to share and discuss.

I don't regularly watch the hangout, just not enough time in the days, but when I do I dislike having to go find who they're talking about on the off chance it's not a super common cast-him-in-everything-ever choice.

I'm mostly bored by casting. I'd rather hear more discussion about world-building or plot.

I'm a big movie fan as well as book lover, so I enjoyed casting, especially when their ideas were nowhere near mine, lol. But I think it could be an organic kind of thing, sometimes a character just jumps off the page and all you can see is the actor when you're reading. I would be happy to hear if this happens to the ladies, but if nothing fits then it's okay to skip it for that book.
