Poor Jude can't catch a break when it comes to women! Is this Hardy's commentary on women, that they are all flighty and have nothing in their heads? Or just that Jude happens to attract that particular type of woman? What is it with people so cavalierly running about getting married all the time, then immediately regretting it? I wonder if Jude will ever make it to being a clergyman, or any of his other dreams... I have a feeling his brief time with Arabella (we're told they spent the night together, so in Victorian terms, and since they are still married, I suppose we can assume that their relationship was re-consummated?) will end up coming back to haunt him.
