Roblin looked away, not wanting to be awkward. "Sorry." He blurted.

"For what?" Madeline asked. "I should be sorry. For doing these things to do." She looked away.
"No, I shouldn't have pushed you away like that. It's now what a friend would do." He tugged at a blade of grass, not looking at her.
Madeline smiled. She was happy to have a first friend. "But you aren't angry?" She asked, looking at Roblin's eyes.
Roblin smirked. "Maybe just a little." He stared back, wanting to remember this moment forever. His cheek was still smudged with dirt, making him look a little funny.
"A little?" Madeline asked. She attempted to bite back a giggle, but couldn't help. She had a small and cute giggle.
"What?" Roblin asked, looking behind him as if there was something there that was amusing. "Do I have something in my teeth or something?"
Madeline reached forward at Roblin's face, and attempted to brush off the dirt.
Roblin froze when he felt her fingers brush against his cheek.
"You okay? You kinda..." Madeline said, brushing softer.
"I'm fine." Roblin stammered, becoming less tense. "Just... surprised." He laughed nervously.
Roblin blushed. "Nothing." He got up and brushed off his tunic, feeling extremely awkward.
Madeline moved her hand away, looking away.
Roblin stared at his feet, hating the silence. "The universe project. Star catching." He blurted, turning back to her. "You wanna work together on it?"
"Yeah." Madeline felt awkward at the silence.
Roblin glanced up. "I was thinking of working here, but..." Half the sky was blocked by the house, and the other half by the woods. Only a small patch of stars was visible.
"Maybe at my place?" Madeline suggested. "I have some" She lowered her voice, looking around. "stuff."
"Sure..." Said Roblin, unsure. He packed up his telescope till it was the size of a flashlight, and hung it from his pocket.
"Come on!" Madelin grabbed Roblin and pulled out her home crystal, leaping.
Roblin leaped outside the gate, where Margren was standing, arms crossed. "Oh, I was just-" She grabbed his arm. "Grounded."
The next day...Margren led Roblin to the gate, watching him as he brought out his crystal. He sighed and leaped to school.
Roblin leaped outside the gate, clutching Madeline's hand.
Roblin saw her blush and his brow creased as he wondered why. He figured it out and flushed red as well, dropping her hand. He opened the gate and started walking at a brisk pace to the door.
Madeline followed Roblin slowly, flinging her bag onto her back.
"After you." He mumbled, holding open the door.
Madeline smiled at Roblin, moving in.
Roblin started up the stairs, and winced when a step creaked. Margren was in the room in a second, brow creased. "You're home early. Are you alright?" She noticed Madeline. "Wha-"
"It's for a project." Madeline said softly, hiding behind Roblin to avoid Margren's glare.
Roblin nodded franticly. "Yep. For school." He stepped forward. "She's not like that. Calm down." He said under his breath, and Margren sighed. "I'm just-" Roblin nodded and grabbed Madeline's wrist, pulling her upstairs.
"Nice to meet you!" Madeline shouted as she was pulled upstairs.
Roblin grinned at Margren's shocked expression, pulling Madeline inside his room. He locked the door, then opened the trapdoor to the lab.
"That was so awkward." Madeline said.
"Yeah, it's not going to get any better." He sighed, pulling down the ladder.
Madeline sighed as well, not even knowing why he was sighing.
Roblin climbed up the ladder, and Arnold flew up after him.
Madeline immediately straightened up as Arnold entered.
Arnold landed on Roblin's head without him realising. "So." He grabbed a notebook and started scribbling. "We need to combine starcatching.... with alchemy." He huffed. "Great."
"How?" Madeline repeated, sighing.
"We could..." He searched franticly for any idea. "Well, obviously we just..." He groaned. "This is harder than it looks."
"You think?" Madeline raised an eyebrow. "This is why I don't do extra credit."
Roblin picked up a half melted beaker and tapped it against his knee. "Maybe we could-" His eyes widened and he started scribbling an idea on the notebook.
"What?" Madeline asked. She was immensely interested in Roblin's idea and skipping class.
"You know how there are tons of unique ingredients in alchemy? Like, imp eyelashes for sleeping potions?" Said Roblin, as though this cleared everything up.
"Yea." Madeline said, gesturing for Roblin to explain more.
"So..." Roblin sighed. "We can use stars in the potions!"
"Oh! But what if it explodes...Won't your aunt" Madeline paused, thinking of something to say. "Explode as well?"
"Good point." He looked out the window. "But what if we work in the woods? Then we won't bother any one." He grinned and added a note to the book. "What could go wrong?"
