This was not my sort of book and while I do like fantasy, I just found this book to be rather silly (fantasy-lite with minimal world building and lots of extras in terms of magical creatures with little depth). The premise was interesting in that the center of the story revolves around a magical library that binds a variety of alternate worlds. Irene, the main character is a professional spy/librarian who works for the library and collects important works of fiction from all the different realities.
I can see why people might find the story entertaining but the dialogue almost killed me. I came close to giving up but I persevered. The dialogue was pretty stupid and while I think the author was trying to make her main character sound cool and sassy, she just sounded vapid. This book was inside my Book Riot box and it fulfilled a few challenge items so at least there's that.
Here's a gem:
Kai looked at her with big disappointed eyes. "I would have enjoyed partnering you," he said. "Really. You would too."
"Allow me to inform you that I am an exquisite bed partner," Irene said a little stiffly. "I have travelled through hundreds of alternates and samples partners from many different cultures. If I took you to bed, you certainly wouldn't be complaining."
Kai gave her another deep stare from those drowning-dark eyes of his.
