Book Forty-One
What kind of monster ends a book in the middle of a battle?!?!
"

It was so deceptive too! I was reading the ebook and it said there was like 30 pages left. What i didn't realize was that those thirty pages were a bestiay of the different types of faeries and then a sneak peek of the next book. I was so mad! Lol

I put a hold on the second book on Overdrive already... like the second I finished the book I ran over and put a hold on it. I love these characters and I really want to see where this is going. I also really hope that the relationship between Meg and Simon goes where it's heading much faster lol.
The one thing I should say is that this book should come with a cutting or self-harm warning. I don't need it myself but I know people that would pick up this book and then be triggered not too far in.

Needed a quick read between books and decided that Marceline the Vampire Queen would be pretty safe bet. And I was right. Pretty standard Adventure Time adventure with Marceline and Jake. Bonus Lumpy Space Princess comic at the back.

I've picked this graphic novel up SO MANY times at the bookstore but always talked myself out of buying it. I have no idea why I keep doing that when I go to buy graphic novels but I always do it. I've wanted to read this for at least a year... probably longer.. and I kept talking myself out of it.
It's really, really good! I finally just got it through Hoopla (with a little push as it was a group read in one of my other groups on here) and I'm definitely getting the next volume or two to read really soon.

I bought this book when it first came out and then it sat there for years waiting for me to finally get to it. I really should have read this much sooner.
It's a little darker than I expected but, really, I should know better than to think Gaiman would be any thing but dark and creepy... even in a book for younger readers lol.

Nothing like a television series coming out in a month to finally make me read this one. For being a Neil Gaiman fan I really haven't read a lot of his work. I'm a bad fan lol
Really good book that I should have read years ago.

This is a lovely book. Written as a series of letters to his son, the author reflects on his upbringing and tries to give his son advice about how to be a Muslim in the twenty-first century. Much of his advice is really just good advice for anyone. He mixes personal history and Muslim and Arabic history in with his advice to give context to current affairs and problems within the Middle East and Islam itself. I highly recommend this book.

I won an advanced copy of this book here on Goodreads. It comes out at the beginning of May.
I LOVE Jane Austen. She's one of my favourite authors of all time. This book is pretty interesting. The author looks to Austen's works to try to glean what her opinions about the pressing issues of her day would have been. Each chapter focuses on a different book and does a really deep reading of each. Some beloved characters don't come out looking so great in the end. It's impossible to know if the conclusions this author jumps to are in any way true to the way that Austen meant her books to be read but if nothing else it's an interesting look at Regency England and gives the reader something to think about the next time they pick up a Jane Austen novel.

I loved this book. I had only been familiar with a couple of the more popular Norse myths before reading this. Neil does a good job of choosing a handful of very interesting and important myths and making them super readable and entertaining.

Ok so I love this series. But... this book seemed rushed. Like, it would have been better if it had been split into two books. I have some other issues with pacing and Sarah trying way too hard to make completely unlikable and/or bland characters relevant but for the most part this was a really good book. It might sound like I don't really like it but I swear I do lol. I devoured this book. I'm looking forward to the next book. I just have notes lol. And I don;t want to spoil anything or start a fandom war with my opinion so I'll just let it be. If you want to know what I didn't like just PM me.

I'm absolutely loving this series! Meg's and Simon's relationship is so cute. Also the stakes are really raised in this book. Put a hold on the third book before I was even finished this one.

I basically read this book just to finish a challenge quickly. It's a nice quick, easy read. A really good introduction to Buddhism.

I mean.. It was ok. There was like no reason to have Poe's ghost in this.. at all... it added nothing to the story. It sounded like a good concept but it just didn't live up to expectations. I managed to not figure out who the killer was until the end though so that's something.

Really neat concept. I'm actually really looking forward to the next book in the series. I picked this one up from the library on a whim and I'm glad I did. Not only is it a neat, steampunk story, it also has a really cute lgbt love story. Hopefully I don;t have to wait too long for the next book.

A cute, easy read. I'm kind of curious about how the cats got their magic powers so I hope that future books deal with this and it's not just a weird thing that hangs there. Are the other cats from the abandoned building magic? What's going on? There's nothing really special about this book, it's a pretty cookie-cutter murder mystery (except that there are magic cats) but it's entertaining enough. I'll be continuing with this series I think.

The main character's obsession with beautiful women is a little irritating but I liked this telling of the firebird myth. It keeps the darkness of traditional faerie tales and it doesn't have a nice neat ending. It's a happy ending but it's not the "and they lived happily ever after" kind of happy ending.

The adults are terrible!! Oh. My. God. The adults are terrible!

Still cute. Still nothing special. I'll have to get the next books from the library now so I'll probably wait until I've burned through some of my 'to read' pile at home before I start getting a bunch of stuff from the library. Really want to see how the new romance pans out in future books.

These books are so frustrating! Why won't anyone listen to the kids?! It's stressing me out.

Really enjoying these graphic novels! It's a great story and I love the characters. Really need to get my hands on the rest of the series.

They've started killing off characters I care about... Shit's getting real... Need the next one ASAP.

I love Anthony Bourdain. I kind of want to be him when I grow up lol. This is a really cool look into the restaurant business as well as a fun memoir.

It's been a while since I read this story so I had forgotten parts of it. How was I not freaked out by this story when I was a kid? It was fun to revisit this one. I should go back and reread more fairytales soon.

I'm not sure if reading the books that came before this one would have helped me care about the characters more but I had a really hard time giving a shit about anyone in this book. Way to much useless information about everyone and yet not enough to make me care about their lives Everyone sucked. It's a good thing the murder was interesting or this would have been a complete write off. It took me a while to really get into this book but it eventually caught my interest. I kind of want to read some other books in this series to see if it was just this one book that didn't catch me or if this just isn't my thing.

Why yes, I AM listening to LeVar Burton Reads! A great sci-fi short story.

You ever read a book that was WAY more topical than it had any reason to be? This story is actually super relevant to society today. Just with... shape-shifters and vampires and stuff... Like, this should not be this relevant. They're also killing more characters I like. And Meg And Simon are still adorable.

I love these kinds of books. Hidden codes and ancient mysteries with dead bodies lining the road to discovery. This one had been in my to read pile for years and I'm a little upset that it took me so long to make it a priority. It's a little heavy on the academia so it's not for everyone but I do recommend this book.

America invading Canada for our water. Yeah sounds about right. I wish there were more to this series. It's just too short!
Overall Rating - 4 Stars

It's been a couple of years since I read the first couple of books in this series so it took me a bit to reacquaint myself with the characters and remember what had happened in the last book. Once I got caught up I really enjoyed this book. The cases are interesting and I love the characters. The slightly futuristic world is also really fun. I've got the next book on hold at the library. Hoping it doesn't take too long to get to me. I've got lots to read until I do get it but I'm really looking forward to continuing this series.

That's just the kind of thing I was grumbling about in the His Dark Materials books that I'm reading these days. I am not too pleased when a book, even if it is a series, ends midway.
