FYI Gary, Sanderson himself recommend starting with the Mistborn trilogy, it's one of his earlier works and a bit more action packed.

I had the same problem with A Darker Shade of Magic. It took a little bit for the story to ramp up for me. Also, I almost put the book down for good when (view spoiler) which I thought was ridiculous. However, I am continuing on to see how it pans out.

I made it through the first book in the series but couldn't make it through the second, I can't remember why I put it down but it was something ridiculous that finally did it for me as well.

I just got an email from Tor today announcing it. I'm intrigued to be sure.

Silvana (silvaubrey) I remember being quite fond of the first two books of His Dark Materials but not the third one because there were too many angels in it.
Still, I am listing The Book of Dust in my maybe-list.

I wasn't a fan of the original trilogy and have very little interest in reading more of it.

It may or may not be true that this has been re-titled The Ruin of Angels. At least Amazon and B&N think so, and so does Goodreads, which gets its data from Amazon. (I'm mildly skeptical because it doesn't fit the other title styles and the cover art doesn't follow the design of the previous five books.)

Also, the publisher has changed from Tor to Tor.com, which would seem to signify Ruin of Angels might be a Craft Sequence novella (which is what Tor.com publishes, as opposed to Tor, who publish novels & anthologies.)

Both Amazon and B&N list the paperback at $15.xx but the ebook as $2.99. Just in case it is the 6th novel, I pre-ordered the ebook before someone notices it's a pricing error. :)

Or I might just be confused :)

I agree with Roger that the Mistborn books should be read first. I have read the first six, but book seven is not due to come out until 2018. I will definitely put it on next years thread. Stormlight 3 is due to be published on November 14, 2017 and it's first on my list.

This article & the fact that Amazon's product description is listing Ruin as 400 pages suggest re-titling: http://www.theverge.com/2017/2/8/1451...
