I've seen the movie a LONG time ago. I called my mom earlier today and asked her if she found it scary. And my mom gets scared REAL easily. She said that she was never scared, and in fact she found it hilarious whenever anyone bit into a rat. We both find it a really great movie, but it doesn't come off as horror, more dark fantasy. Like how Buffy and Angel are more dark fantasy. The book btw is one of the rare situations where I have the actual phystical copy. It's a hardcover book that contains the first 3 books.
On a somewhat related note, I'm currently reading
I picked it up because several reviews called her the next anne rice, and yeah, it does kinda feel a mexican version of Interview with a Vampire, although it's set in the future.
I read this many years ago in paperback. I liked it though I have no desire to read further in the series. I didn't feel like it was an intense, in your face kind of horror novel. It did, however, have a subtle creep factor to it which I would think is harder to achieve than OTT blood and gore horror. I think it may be closer in tone to Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Saint Germaine Chronicles, though there is little resemblance between Rice's vampires and Yarbro's.
I saw the movie and thought is was ok. I didn't think it was that scary. I tried to read the book but couldn't get into it. I've tried reading her other books but couldn't get into them either. I liked Queen of the Damned better.
I loved this book! In fact my copy is so battered from being read so much. I think it was the first vampire book I read in the early 90's. Everything seemed so fun, made me wish that I could be one of the group. Nothing was as it seemed, the story was so layered. I loved that at the heart it was a story about friends.
