Yes, I agree with Anne. I just need to try harder. Last year when we had this category I was determined to avoid Nora Roberts, since I don't ever read romance novels. I read
by
Nancy Rappaport. It was strange and tedious. But at least I felt it deserved 2 stars. This year, still determined to avoid Nora Roberts, I read
by
Nancy Taylor Rosenberg, one of the worst books I have ever finished. All the characters were either criminals or fatally flawed, and I do mean fatally. The protagonist is a judge, a murderer, who has never heard of ex parte meetings and is barely acquainted with other niceties of legal ethics. The higher scoring murderer contacts the FBI with enough clues to allow them to find her in less than a week, for reasons incomprehensible. And it's lucky she does, because the FBI agent who catches the case is so besotted with a colleague that she has a hard time focusing on the crimes. If I get this category again next year (I used a random number generator to select from the list we all started with), I might find that Nora Roberts is my new favourite author!
