SOLVED. YA sci-fi/horror, hallucinating bees, runs into traffic. [s]

For the longest time I was convinced that this was part of the Outer Limits book series, but haven't been able to identify it. It could easily be from a series like Point Horror or Fear Street, but my google-fu isn't working right now.

The main characters are in high school, and the only part I clearly remember is a character starts hallucinating that they're being attacked by a swarm of bees, and they run out of the school and into traffic. They're hit by a car and killed. I want to say a disease or aliens were involved, or maybe both, but I won't swear to it.

Somewhere around 12-18 years ago, and I can't remember a single thing about the cover, unfortunately.
